Balanced Armature vs Dynamic : https://brianli.com/in-ear-monitors-balanced-armature-drivers-vs-dynamic-drivers/

Essentially a hybrid is using both kinds together so you get the pounding bass out of a DD while getting the smoother response on the midrange and/or treble out of a BA. A DD "pumps" so response it's harder to get a very flat response, as it tends to have to deal with cone break-up and "speed" (think of how you can swing a battleaxe or halberd but leave yourself open to a counter thrust if you're fighting someone with a lighter sword, so you end up not using powerful moves anyway and keep the movement arcs smaller to deflect the sword); a BA driver basically vibrates more than pumps, so the motion and the resulting soundwaves are smoother (in response) but within a narrow range, so typically they use several BAs to use them in their flatter ranges, and when necessary (or allowed by the price point) they use several bass drivers to match the DD's prodigious bass.

In essence, it's kind of like pairing a vibrating ribbon tweeter to a pumping midwoofer.

Or in some cases, a midrange driver and a woofer.
