Astell&Kern AK380

It would be nice for the upcoming AK flagship to have a swappable amp instead of an add on.

Nah. I doubt A&K would walk this path. Their DAPs have always been single blocks of sexy plastic/metal. Making it modular doesn't fit into their design DNA. But, well, who knows?

LOL, it will be a miracle if future AK DAPs have 90 deg angles.

Copper will remain the topic all! None coming DAP will reach its SQ performs.

Maybe, but I don't like its look and it is heavier. For me the black one is the most beautiful one, and its sound quality is more than enough.

Sound quality can never be high enough in our hobby.

Congrats to your setup, looks really nice!

They did semi block designs with the AK100 ii and the AK120 ii, but of course, A&K being them, they had to add some angular cuts here and there.

Yeah. I could have sprung a bit more to get the copper, but I chose the black instead. The sound is TOTL enough for me, and I absolutely love its design.

Yes, I agree with your opinion of the copper - I've never liked it even when new, never mind with a 'patina'. And in blind listening (extended listening) I couldn't hear any difference between the copper and the standard 'vanilla' version. I understand that many on this forum can.

Who knows? I've had AK staff tell me they can't hear the difference between different models let alone chassis material. If I didn't come across a used CU selling for less than a new black unit I'd probably own a black 380 as well. Hmmm, wonder if putting black powder coat on a CU will affect the sound........

About summed up my thoughts as well! Lol You know I heard the AK 380's Copper is actually mined exclusively by magical dwarfs and you can hear the difference! Lol

to listen in the store it does not mean to make the right conclusion, you need to listen to all in a relaxed atmosphere without too much noise.
I also never said I was in a store, I'm just trying to say that I'm not going to talk about something that I haven't tried before. I was on the review tour for the Arthur and got an extension with my time.

I had problems using AFT to transfer files from internal memory to SD card - assumed it was AFT issue. I laid my problems bare a couple of weeks ago on this forum. If the issue is with AK, they should get it sorted - I'll bet a great many AK owners use Macs. Thinking of getting a windows laptop for future file movement (it would be useful for some other things - I wouldn't buy one just for this).

I have had problems with AFT.  I found that you really have to use the cable that comes with the AK.  once I started doing this all my problems disappeared.  Also being on the most current software for the AK is important.  When I transferred files from internal to the memory card I actually deleted the ones from the internal and then reloaded the files to the SD.  No problems

AFT is crude at best.  I don't ask it to do much.
