Hi Head-Fiers!

I've got a slightly complex question. Currently my setup plays music off of my computer via a DAC. I'm looking into what it would take to add Vinyl to the equation and be able to switch back and forth between the two, without having two separate setups.

My setup is as follows: Mac Pro > DAC > Headphone Amp/Pre > Headphones/Powered Speakers.

The way I see it, my eventual Vinyl setup would have to be: Turntable > Phono Stage > Audio Processor > Headphone Amp/Pre > Headphones/Powered Speakers.

I would basically plug both the turntable and the DAC into the audio processor so I could use it to switch back and forth. That's what I've gleaned from a little bit of googling.

Am I right?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!

Hi levinhatz,

You are about right but why not use a preamp with a built-in phono stage instead of getting a separate phono stage and a processor. My suggestion:

1. Turntable
                                    > PreAmp with Phono Stage > Head Phone Amp > Head Phones
2. Mac Pro > DAC

The preamp will allow for switching of inputs between your DAC and Turntable. Hope this helps.
