Headphones around 150€ for CS:GO, music and mobile use

Hi,

I've been browsing through the forums for a couple of hours looking for a good pair of headphones for my use but I've had a hard time finding something that matches all of my criteria. I'm looking for headphones that cost around (150€) and that would be used mostly for competitive CS:GO and music (rap, electronic). My criteria for the headphones is obviously clear sounds for CS:GO, ability to use them with my phone (S5) and laptop when I'm not at home (some weatherproofing would be nice but it's not that big of a deal) and probably closed as I would use them in public places and I live in a pretty small appartment with my girlfriend that watches a TV that is 2 meters away from me.

My first choice would've been ATH-M50X but some people mentioned that they're not really that good for gaming and it can be difficult to hear sounds at times (like footsteps). Is this true? I then ventured to look into HD 558 and DT 770 but I'm a bit worried about the HD 558 being open and the velour earcups on DT 770 as I doubt they can take even a bit of rain.

Should I just go with the ATH-M50X or are they really "bad" for gaming? Or are the HD 558 and DT 770 really a better choice and I'm just overanalyzing? Are there any other options I should consider in this price range?

Thank you.

Open headphones are generally much better than closed headphones because they have a bigger soundstage. The HD558 would be the best choice out of the headphones you have mentioned for gaming.

But open headphones are a horrible choice for public use because they leak sound out and leak sound in. So you'll have to make a choice whether gaming or portable use is more important.

I wouldn't count on any headphones having good "weatherproofing." If you want something more water resistant for portable use, you should consider IEMs.

That's sort of what I figured out. As I have some "noise" (don't tell my girlfriend I called her that) at home as well I think I have to go with something closed. What would be the best choice considering my gaming hobby even though it's not optimal? You can forget the weatherproofing.

I'll probably go visit a store tomorrow and try different things, probably even the open ones to see how it really is.

In that case, you should go listen, and then come back and tell us what you like/didn't like and why. That's a much better place to start from smily_headphones1.gif
