Well, you'll be in the running to buy one of his amps on April 14, and it wont actually arrive at your door till mid-August, but I share your excitement. Just want them to release the battery-powered little amp too.

Would tend to think more a warmer sound signature rather than a brighter signature when the term intimate is used.

Defining intimate as your heart & soul being part of the music doesn't really clarify anything about how this amplifier sounds to me.

could you please clarify how are you defining these terms and the differences in your mind between forward and intimate? thanks! :)

I don't want to attempt to describe the sound of an amp that I haven't heard.  Especially since you're likely to read too much into what I say and base a potential purchasing decision on that.  We also seem to be on a different wavelength in terms of what we analyze about sound qualities.  For me a sound style that gets my heart and soul a part of the music is the most important part.  And Cavalli amps do that for me.  There's a lot of expensive and well regarded amps that don't do that for me.  I've discovered that Cavalli amps do that magic for me, which is why I trust his ears and am willing to buy an amp like this blind without having heard it.  That magic is part of what I consider the Cavalli house sound, though there is more to it.  Just don't ask me to describe it.  Cause that part isn't so easy to describe.

The problem is you could say that about any amp or piece of gear, but it gives no one any idea what it sounds like - it's great to hear that is an amp that has the power to physically move you, but for real world evaluations I would be more interested to know how it compares to amps in a similar price class, like a Burson Soloist or Woo Audio Amp for example.

Any DAC suggestions to pair with this?

Yes--I understand that.  But when you're old, time tends to pass quickly.

The problem is that I don't want to make too specific of comments about what I consider the general Cavalli sound when those comments will get attributed to describe the sound of a new Cavalli amp that I have not heard.  So my comments about the Cavalli sound were intentionally vague.  Someone who has actually heard the Liquid Carbon can take the opportunity to describe the sound of the amp and what aspects of the general Cavalli house sound it possesses.

I'm wondering if it will be a significant upgrade from my ALO RX-MKIII-B+ in driving my Alpha Primes....

If it is, then I don't mind spending the money. But I don't want to spend the money just to spend the money.

A loudspeaker designer named Roy Allison coined an adage, "Any designer worth his salt could develop an excellent loudspeaker for 10K". "The challenge, the fun is seeing how many of those properties could be borrowed, then brought down to a level that everyman could afford".

That's what Alex is doing with his amps attributes, bringing them down to a level for the masses. Having heard two his designs? I can go on a little faith.

Its used in mostly portable amps by Ray Samuels, ALO, and Cypher Labs.  It more low profile then a 4 pin XLR plug, but I think of it as a bit more fragile.  I think its more used in IEMs then full sized headphones.  4 pin XLR is very common in desktop amps (and my portable HiFi-M8), so I tend to think that termination in full size cans would find more uses in other amps....

The guy is so humble, provides excellent advise about his amps.

I just realized that I'll never hear one of these. You lot are lucky having access to such things and unlimited funds.

Now I just hope I won't need an amp with the next headphones I choose.

Two more hours, and it's already almost midnight here in Japan....

Unlimited funds? Bah, I'm working a pretty low income job and I'm a full time student, but I scrounged up enough money to pay for the Carbon. Granted, $600 is a crap ton of money for me, even with my tax return, but even if I don't like the amp, the demand for these little guys is going to be pretty high. Don't exclude yourself from things you want, just work harder for em!

Just ordered my LAu last week but this sure is tempting, saddened by the fact it'd be irresponsible of me to order the Carbon as well *sigh*
