So the fiio x1 supports FLAC, APE, ALAC, WAV, WMA, MP3, AAC and OGG. Which one of those sounds best terms of sound quality?

FLAC is lossless, has great meta-data support and is open sourced, No brainer for me :L3000:

Many people find that high bit rate MP3 and AAC are indistinguishable from lossless file formats. You could test yourself to see if you can tell a difference: http://lifehacker.com/5903625/mp3-or-lossless-see-if-you-can-hear-the-difference-with-this-test

If you find you cannot, or the difference is very minor, I would put 256 AAC or 320K mp3s myself instead of lossless formats like flac or wav, since they take up a lot less room.

I've noticed that some songs don't compress as clean as others. I also like to channel out the center sounds sometimes, and compressed music always has a swishy sound to it.
