My issue with that is that it sounds like a normal dealership would do (the cable co, for example), hence me not exactly seeing the point.

A beta test is not a buying opportunity, it's a way for companies to evaluate their products against the real-world needs and requirements of their customers.

Hifiman just seems to seek a way to sell finished products to HF'ers, no to actually improve on their design based on their reactions to them. That's, again, not how a beta test works.

I am under the impression that it's not a finished product yet, but I could be wrong. Either way, I'm still excited and looking forward to hearing it soon - and if it's worth the hefty price tag then I will be keeping it - if not, at least i got to try it.

I think they are confident there will be no major changes after the beta testing period. I asked what would happen if a tester decides to keep them but there are significant changes to the production version. Their answer was that they will work with the tester to incorporate those changes to his/hers headphones to bring them to the production level.

I'm very happy and excited!
Got confirmation a couple of days ago that I will be one of the HE-1000 beta testers.
Looking forward to comparing them to the HE-6 and HE-500 among others gs1000.gif

They didn't.

They posted it here, on a public forum, and they let it be put on the first page. How is that "keeping it private" ?

I reminded you guys not to blab for a reason. We are not supposed to post stuff about the secret details of the beta test program.

Anyway...I may end up participating after all. Just gotta work out some things...

What's the point ? Hifiman's proposal is not going to be affected in any way. Again, they've shared their program on a public forum, they can't expect people not to chat over it.

Because they are the terms of the project that those who were selected agreed to. Even if it's not a legally binding contract, there are certain things that were not supposed to be revealed to the public. At least some of them haven't...yet...

(I'm not referring to general discussion here.)

We are not talking about some software - with a limited use period coded in.  But a real product that has high material costs.  Why not let the reviewer purchase if they choose - isn't that the way all these audio magazines do it.  How many times have you read the reviewer bought the item under review they loved it so much.

I applaud HiFiMan for doing this for US the Headfi community - not just some audio magazine reviewers.  It must be a logistical nightmare for them.

I for one am very thankful to have the opportunity to give them a go.  I have to say I do love my HD800's with the Moon Black Dragon V2 cable - after hearing many other HPs.  But you never know until you try.

I am not criticizing their offer, I am just saying that it is not a beta test at all.

Sometimes one has to call a cat a cat, and this really is a discount offer with a trial period bundled in.

Well, the cat's out of the bag now...though that information really wasn't supposed to be shared publicly in the first place.

Just curious- were you told that this is the final production version of the he1000?

We are also not supposed to post any details discussed privately connected to the beta test.

I don't mean to be like a party pooper here, but I'm just trying to remind people to honor the agreement they made.
