HIFIMAN Flagship Headphone HE1000 Beta Testing Opportunity Complete - Feel free to still comment - Page 38

A lot more than a few were selected, including myself. And, unless they are comfortable with the terms, or already had the reserves or intentions of buying this product, a significant portion of them will drop out. Including me. smily_headphones1.gif

What was questionable about the terms?

Since I didn't get a PM from Hifiman, I guess that I wasn't selected.

I'd like to hear more from the guys and gals who chose to drop out though. What could make any real HF'er drop out of such an opportunity ?

Ah ok.

That's what I immediately thought when I first read that thread. I couldn't believe that such a thing was coming out of Hifiman.

So basically you have to be selected in order to pay for hearing something you've never tried before. How is that a beta testing program ?

How much would one have to spend by the way ?

well it's just a deposit as collateral, make sure your not just giving away a $3000 headphone a bunch of random people. You can get your deposit back if you choose to return the headphone, or keep it at the discounted price. So even if you don't like it you can still get your money back. I have a feeling most people knew they were going to like it and weren't quite ready to plunk down that much money.

That's one of the conditions of our agreement unfortunately, we are not allowed to talk about beta pricing.

Well I can actually understand that, but why did they choose to make it public then ?

How else is there to do it?

Keep it private and choose a few head-fier based on their reputation and "rank" in the community.

My issue with that is that it sounds like a normal dealership would do (the cable co, for example), hence me not exactly seeing the point.

A beta test is not a buying opportunity, it's a way for companies to evaluate their products against the real-world needs and requirements of their customers.

Hifiman just seems to seek a way to sell finished products to HF'ers, no to actually improve on their design based on their reactions to them. That's, again, not how a beta test works.

I am under the impression that it's not a finished product yet, but I could be wrong. Either way, I'm still excited and looking forward to hearing it soon - and if it's worth the hefty price tag then I will be keeping it - if not, at least i got to try it.

If it is indeed not a finished product then it shouldn't be sold at all.

What would be interesting though, is if they offered you to try the darn thing, report back and then get a finished production-ready headphone at a discount.

Either way, I wish you a very good time with them. :beerchug:

It'd be useful to mention it in the first post for sure. I signed for it because I wasn't expecting any deposit. Cash is tight right now, so I can't put aside a substantial sum of money for an indefinite time. Especially since my local currency is weakening.

Just something that probably should have been noted.

IE - NOTE: A deposit as collateral [refundable] will be expected from all participants and is required in order to participate.

There, easy. Also, better since less cherry picking and disappointment from people like me :(  :)

Any chance you're bringing this to the Melbourne meet, or are you not allow base on the terms and condition?
