PM3 arrived today! I'm guessing that OPPO will sell a lot of these at current MSRP, because it is almost as luxuary as its big brother PM1. It came in its original retail box, with denim case + small stringed inner pouch, long cable with 1/4 adapter w/o mic, two sets of short cable with mic (one for iOS, another for Android), another short cable w/o mic (total 4 sets of cables), manual+warranty card, but no extra pads. Basically OPPO sent the full retail version of PM3!

Soundwise, it feels similar to Sony MDR Z7 than other open orthos like EL8 open or PM1, which is obvious (I'm comparing to the most similar ones among what I have). Little bit stronger clamping force than PM1, maybe because its got smaller cup/headband. Sound is natrually confined but I did not feel claustrophobic at all, yet some instruments (especially piano) feels really resonating. I wonder how it will sound if switching to an open or semi-open enclosure is an option (of course, I woudn't do that to this demo unit. Oppo made this to be mainly a portable headphone, but I'm just wishing). More to come.

Exciting. I'm on the Canadian tour, but not due for my turn until probably July or so. Thankfully I get the PM-1 pretty soon, so get to play AND have something OPPO to compare the PM-3 to when it arrives. Looking forward to getting impressions over the next several weeks.

I am tentatively projecting this unit to arrive at Chateau Moi on August 24, and have written that in ink on my calendar.

But if any of these [smart/perceptive/good-looking </obsequious_flattery_mode>] folks:

choose to buy a PM-3 before the Loaner arrives, and as a result relinquish their place in the line ...

I will personally do a 2 minute standing ovation of gratitude and thanks.

Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick are we there yet ?

I'd like to be able to demo the PM-3's. I did like them when I heard them at CanJam, but it would be great to be able to demo them in the comfort of my own home and with my other equipment.

I think you guys at Oppo still have my information from the PM-1/PM-2 tour. Thanks for giving us the chance to get a listen to your headphones!

Even though I only had it for 3 days, I'll have to ship it out to the next person tomorrow since I'm going on a trip overseas. I am so sad... PM3 and 1 came in the same day!, Both only 4 days b4 the trip! dang... what a luck, But I cannot take them with me. So they'll go out tomorrow.

Although I prefer PM1 over this (I like bigger headphones), PM3 is a perfect unit for any serious portable users. I'd give it 10/10 for everything. I did not even try/open the other two extra cables, but the iOS cable was perfect with my iPhone.

Great thanks to Oppo again, and hope they sell a lot of these! (so hopefully the $$$ will go down soon!)

Update 4/10/2015: Dropped it at local post office!

Hi all,

I've posted my review of the PM-3 here:  http://www.head-fi.org/products/oppo-pm-3/reviews/12890

I'll be sending these off to the next lucky listener tomorrow.

It's unfortunate it didn't work out that you could take the PM-3s with you on the trip ... a high-qual h/p you can take with you on the road is exactly what I think a lot of people interested in the PM-3 are looking for.

Maybe you can sign up again so you get a full week with 'em. (Probably not soon though.)

Is it too late to sign up for this?  I want to audition this with my DAC/AMP Oppo HA-2 and the Dragonfly 1.2.

I would also like to join and agree to the terms and conditions. I'm in California.

BTW nice meeting you guys at CANJAM Socal and thanks for the OPPO black t-shirt.  I was one of the first one who sampled this on your booth.

I just got em! Everything is in fantastic shape. Next up after me is Imackler which I'll be shipping out next Monday to (Oohh I get the weekend with it!!). Anyways thanks again to the wonderful guys at Oppo for making this tour happen.

Initial opening of box shows fantastic build quality. The case, although denim, is still a nice touch. The box is very clean looking, nice presentation for buyers and future owners! As for the headphone, it screams absolute quality build. It's got great attention to detail with the polished trimming and the flat paints in contrast. The pads are buttery soft and the headband is of the same material. It hugs your head like a pillow, like go ahead kick back and relax type feel. DAMN it feel classy on my head.  The headband clickers have a fantastic feel to how they adjust, adjustments feel and sounds solid unlike some headphones where it feels/sounds like cheap materials are inside that's getting ready to go after years of use. This thing feels like it'll last generations from father to son type thing.

The metals they used on the build is very nice, solid feel and the machining is PRECISE. It's got some bulk to the metal but nothing ridiculous. I don't know how I feel about the black brushed backing and the midnight blue cups but it does look nice and the difference in color is really subtle, the polish corners creates great lines that's very pleasing to the eye.

The only downside to such a luxurious build would be the weight. These are heavier than your average on and over ear, I would say in the realms of 500g maybe? This is just by feel. Also the cable, although having the same luxurious feel with a smooth skin and metallic ends (with the same polish lines) doesn't seem to fit this headphone. This is of course what audiophiles and head-fiers are used to, with what to the average person may seem ridiculous in cabling is the norm to us. And that is braided super fat cables with monster ends yelling AUDIOPHILE blatantly. I can tell you though, the cable and headphone sounds great. Even out of my Galaxy S3 with the Wolfson chips and Neutron/Flac, it sounds fantastic. I'm really surprised how well these sound powered out of a cell phone. Of course I expect it to scale with my home system but for now, listening out and about, it's Hi-Fi on the go without much missing. BRAVO

This isn't my review, take it as notes and initials. I'll try to gather my thoughts later on and put it something formal.
I'm currently listening to Mambo on Gustavo Dudamel's Discoveries album out of my phone and I'm just shocked how well this can sound out of a phone. :)
