I've had my Sennheiser HD 558s for a couple years now and am looking to upgrade. I like the open styled headphones and to help get a guideline I play a lot of games, and listen to mostly progressive rock/classic rock with some electronic music now and then. I really like the look of the AKG K/Q701s and I've heard good things about HD 650s but I'm wondering if there are any others I should look at or if those are any good for what I might like. Price range is ~$200ish but I'm not afraid to go a little higher for some quality headphones. Thanks.

Are the K7XX better than Q7XX? And what if I don't have any kind of amp? I haven't really looked into or done any research on any kind of amplifiers.
From my personal understanding, the K7XXs are better then the Q701s.
I believe the K7XX comes with more bass, then the Q701.
Did you ever remove the black rubber tape from inside the cups of the HD558s?
I haven't, I don't even know what that is.
On the inside of the cups of the HD558, there is black rubber tape that covers about 40% of the air holes.
So removing the black rubber tape makes the HD558 more open, the idea being that removing the tape makes the HD558 sound somewhat more like the HD598.
The HD558 and HD598 use the same 50-Ohm driver.
