Do the AKG K545s require an amplifier when connected to a phone (HTC One M7) ?

Sorry for my extremely dumb question, I'm new here, but whatever:

Do the AKG K545s require an amp to use them with my phone? I use the HTC One M7 with Beats Audio turned off. Buying an amp (there are some portable amps I've seen, would those help?) is not that much of a problem, but as I am a student, I am on a pretty tight budget, so please don't start recommending high-end amplifiers 10x the price of those cans.

But do they even need an amplifier? I know the probability of someone here owning both the headphones and the M7 is pretty small, but maybe someone here owns both and can tell me?

EDIT: I use MP3Gain in order to change the average volume of my songs to 89db, if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

The K545s have decent sensitivity. So it really depends on how loud you like to listen and how good the amp is in your phone (I have no idea). For moderate listening volumes, I'm sure it would be fine smily_headphones1.gif

I have the AKG K550s and they are easy to drive and I'm assume the K545 are about the same.

But if you did want to try improving the audio quality, might look into getting the FiiO X1 DAP.
