Do I need to change Audio Creation Mode's "Master Sampling Rate"?

I have an X-Fi Titanium HD. For as long as I can remember with this card and past X-Fi cards, I've always used Audio Creation Mode with Bit-Matched Playback enabled for playback of all music files and CDs as well as DVDs, but I haven't yet worried about the Master Sampling Rate. Does this setting affect playback, or is it only for recording? Should I always make sure that it matches the bit-depth and sampling rate of whatever media I'm playing?

Edit: For that matter, do I also need to change the "Default Format" in Windows? I have Windows 7.

Either no one knows, or this forum is very slow. Or, am I asking a question whose answer makes no difference?
