Looking for a narrow pair of speakers, to be fed from my Creative X7

I have 15 cm (preferably even less) of width to spare on the side of my 32" monitor.

The budget is 150£ or less (not more since I'll be moving in a few months) and I'm open to active speakers or bookshelf.

I'm thinking the Q2010i would be a great choice, but they're a bit too wide. I have exactly 15 cm on each side and I want to be able to position them properly!

I'll be using them for gaming and movies (for music I have the HD700).

Right now I have the cheap Creative T20II, but they often seem too weak and I have to crank up the volume.

P.S. I was also interested in the Tannoy Reveal 402 but I've read about the hissing they produce, and that's something I'm adamant about: the speaker needs to be dead silent.

If you already have the Creative X7, seems best to get passive speakers instead of paying for amplification when you already have it.

I'd also recommend trying to find a way to work around the space limitation so that you can get the best speakers you can. For instance, Wharfedale Diamond 10.1s are excellent, but you need a little more space: http://www.amazon.co.uk/WHARFEDALE-DIAMOND-10-1-SPEAKERS-MAPLE/dp/B0033Y5E1K/

Perhaps you could get a stand to put a speaker on?

Might as well show what it looks like:

15cm or less, I won't sacrifice ease of use, also because I'll be moving in a few months, so it doesn't have to be a "keeper".

Many of us find ways to place one or more of the speakers NOT on our desktop space. I have a dual monitor setup. No room smily_headphones1.gif

On the left side there is a wall and on the right a TV, it's pretty much impossible :)

I'll go with the 2010 anyway!

Had the same issue but even less space (~12 cm). I ended up with T40 Series II :). In that space (15 cm) and price you can have a look at Edifier's 2.0 bookshelves.

B&W makes the MM-1, they're expensive and I did buy them when they first came out and subsequently returned them because I didn't think they had $500 sound.

Bose has a couple but I'm no fan of those either.

These Definitives I've never heard but they're fairly decently rated.

Don't you think they sound a tad better with grilles off?

Never even thought of that.

I'm always listening with them off since I first did it :). Use them only for protection from dust when the speakers are not used.
