Ready to buy some new headphones but I dont think i'm ready to spend $180 unless I really get talked into it...... So, are the m50x worth the extra $75 or should I save some money and pick up the m40x?

Worth? Impossible to define. I know people that will drop $2K just to see if the latest version of the Audeze or HiFiMan headphones sound any different from the previous version they already own. I know other people that consider spending more than $20 on headphones as an affront to human intelligence (eg my wife!) Worth and value are attributes that only you can determine for yourself.

Agreed. Whether or not additional money results in a worthwhile experience improvement is such a subjective thing. It's also tied to one's ability to spend the money as part of their disposable income.

IMO the M50x a much over hyped headphone. I listened to the hype bought them tried to like them but no go. Sound was ok comfort bad. I returned them. There are alot of better sounding and more comfortable cans out there for same money. Again this is all subjective.
