DUNU DN-2000J -- More Than Evolution?

In short - should I buy it, or should I wait for something else :) ?
This depends on your preference, budget and patience.

Dunu has some radical stuff coming around the new year. You might want to hold out and save up in the meanwhile.

I say; if you truly know you want it, it's within reasonable reach, then go for it!

That goes for pretty much anything in life. Sooner then you might expect the opportunity is lost and often for the most unlikely reason you can imagine. Life is short. Don't wait for it to be over with!

  Agree!

What double-flange tips do you use? There weren't any stock in the package I believe!?

I'm in the process of assessing james444's pair of Venture Electronics (VE) the Duke, and it's in many ways an amazing IEM. Just can't believe it's just a single dynamic micro driver IEM. Anyway, when switching to the DN2KJ what really hits me is its bass. Sure, it isn't neutral, it's clearly elevated, but the implementations is so masterful I experience it more reference - emotionally realistic - than any other IEM bass I've heard. So I definitely agree!

Hi Aero Dynamik. I'm using the double flange tips with wide bore that came with the DN-1000 and in fact these are the best for the DN-2000J. Not only for bass, but for a more natural sound in electric guitars, cymbals, etc. I've just found the same tips on ebay here.

OK, thanks! I might want to pick it up and have a go with it. I must say though that I'm extremely happy with the white stock tips, the red extension rings (not for a deeper fit, but to extend the distance between my ear drums and the drivers) and james444's blu-tack mod which I've come to consider more or less indispensable with the white stock tips.

Well, the problem is that I don't (yet) have a preference :)

It's not possible to buy anything non-sennheiser in my country and I was planning to use my business trip to get something better than cx-300 I've been using for the past few years. Good bass sounds great, I'm just worried that they will be too bright for my taste and genres I'm usually listening (well produced prog-rock and badly produced metal/hardcore). Well that and that 4001 will not be much more expensive and they'll kick 2000j's ass. I'm pretty sure that I will not be able to sell them to anyone here, if it happens that I don't like them.

I did similar leap of faith with X2 (never heard anything similar before) and I'm really satisfied with them (my brain adjusted to grainy treble).

Had the cx200 way back...it's probably rotting at the old basement. Look into the dn2000 or dn1000 and don't look back. Titans are well liked too, though there are people that spoke of sibilance in regards to their sound - you can usually get around it using different tips.

Any of the DUNU's I've owned or tried (TITAN 1 and DN-2000J) are a night-and-day improvement over the Sennheiser CX-300/Creative EP-630. Detail, tonality, speed, soundstaging will be a clear step up. If you are worried, just grab the FiiO EX1 (a rebranded TITAN 1 that is sonically identical) that is on sale for $69 on Amazon from someone who ships and sells through Amazon. Then, if you don't like it, return it. The return shipping is only $5 to $6.

EX1 has a terrible isolation, right? I could get them in Holland, they are around 100$ (same price as Amazon + 30% vat/customs).
Will I be able to use 2000j in the office?

not sure about the ex1 or Titan 1 but the DN2KJ would be fine in an office environment

Yes, the EX1/TITAN 1 is essentially comparable to semi-open headphone, slightly better than the DT 880 in partitioning the sound inside and out. Your co-workers will hear what you are listening to and you will hear your surroundings. I highly recommend the DN-2000J as well. My ears are just outrageously small in comparison to most people so they don't work so well for me. If they did, I know from testing them--holding ear tips in place awkwardly--that they would be just sublime. If you have normal-sized ears, you just can't go wrong with the DN-2000J.

I guess that DK-3001, with 3 BAs + 1 Dynamic will cost like $100 more and I don't know if it will be better. DK-4001 I guess will be a different story, but will most probably reach the $500+. At $360 you can't go wrong with 2000J. Of course there's a good chance that my anticipations can be wrong.

Yes, 2000J isolates pretty well. Not as much as DN-1000 but still pretty good. EX1 isolation depends of the tips you're using and if you are willing to use it over ear, swapping channels, but will never isolate as much as DN-2000j.

Any thoughts on 2000J vs. Westone W40s? I don't dislike the W40s, just a little bored after a year. And over the ear really does not fit with how I use them. Any thoughts?

I would say DN-2000J makes W40 sound muffled. Veiled. Also bass quality is meaningfully superior. But this is to be expected from a dynamic driver of this caliber, even vs 2 BA's. Concerrning BA's vs BA's (mids and treble), DN-2000J takes the lead.
