What are the best portable over the ear headphones for <$1000?

Hi,
I just want to buy excellent over the ear (Circumaural) headphones, no amp required, for around $1000 total. I'll listen on my mobile device and desktop.
Must be closed back.

I have tried Sennheiser Momentum M2 and Beyerdynamic t51i so far. I cannot tell the difference between the two, so I'm hoping greater quality is out there.

Can I get excellence at this price point? Is there a stand-out winner?

Yet, the difference between the [$500] Shure SRH1540 and a pair of headphones that cost $1,000 or more is very hard to notice
Is this true?

If there is something truly excellent for a little higher than $1000 then please tell me. Ideally, I would like to buy the best and then never upgrade again.

I listen to all genres (classical, pop, rock, electronic).

The goal is superior sound quality only.
Please recommend!

Depends if you're a basshead or not I guess. Could take a look at T70p or T5p.

Hard to find something better than T51....

Especially if you need them for DAP on the move...

Do you think the T51 can compete with the T5p? The cost difference is significant.

I have just ordered the T5p. I'll post my comments on this in a few days.

I hate how difficult it is to find high quality audio gear...

How about the Oppo PM 3 or the Ultrasone Signature Pros? I would have thought that both would figure in the rankings (and im trying to decide myself)!
