UPS store-retail location

Has anyone had any experience using the UPS store, retail location?

I just did today. Shipped an item with insurance. Guess what, the regular UPS charges $0.35/$100 declared value, the USP store charged me $1.50/$100 declared value.

What a ripoff. I'll make sure I will never use another UPS store ever again.

I've used the UPS store, and I liked the service. They packed and shipped an expensive camera lens for me for repair, and it was well worth it, I think I paid 25$ for shipping.

My UPS store charges $1.00 per 100. I guess that is because each store manages their own insurance program. When I had a package break (A CD player that they packed), I had to deal directly with the location that I used and it took months. Eventually they did pay for it, but it was a big hassle.

I used them ONCE, and will not unless I absolutely have to. It is much cheaper to go directly to a UPS drop-off terminal, though lately I have been using USPS Priority with no problems at all.

Yes that's right. Each UPS store are allowed to have their own rate which can be varied from store to store. I only use FedEx Ground by dropping of my package with printed prepaid label.

PS. Does anyone ever use FedEx Pickup Service? Wonder do they charge extra for picking your package up since I may have to ship somethinh heavy like Television?

i used UPS pick-up once to ship a huge cd player, since i didn't have a car. there was a charge, but it was minimal, and it seemed to go smoothly ( i wasn't around when the package was picked up). and months later, UPS refunded me something like $1.50 because i had overestimated the weight of the package, and thus the cost. that was nice, i guess.

That's kinda odd. The one I usually went to in Champaign, IL only charged the standard 35 cents. I'd be curious to see what the closest one to Bethesda, MD charges.

That is ridiculous, UPS better get their act together. Hopefully the new Kinkos/FedEx service gets more competitive and whips UPS's @ss into shape.

Time is money. If you have to drive 30 miles to save $1.15 / $100 and it was worth $300, you car gets 18 miles to the gallon, and the average speed is 32 mph due to traffic lights, school buses and highway backups, and it takes you 48 minutes one way, there is a 10 minute wait at the terminal, which is cheaper, paying or not paying the extra charge if the store is 2 minutes away by walking? Figure that gas is $2.25 per gallon.

Well, the UPS Stores are rebranded Mail Boxes, Etc. outlets and they were never known to be too reliable on their own before. I go to a local Mom/Pop Parcel Plus (or something of that ilk) and they charge me $.30 per $100 over the 1st $100 for insurance. No complaints here and they do a much better job with the packagin than do the UPS Stores.

Yeah... i shipped my music hall table through them and they wouldn't give me the insurance money. I called and called and they refused to release the claim. Eventually i asked one of my friends who works for UPS and they gave me the phone number of some lady to call, then she called them and they just gave me the minumum 100$.

I hope they go bankrupt.

i hate my local UPS store,
last time when i was there to ship out a huge box of Lego i sold on eBay, i carried in this giant box and waited in line. there was a white male in 50s in line at the counter, the cashier, who was a middle-age white woman, took a quick glance at me and continued to finish filling out the form for the customer in front of me. after she finished, the gentleman in front smiled at me and said hi on his way out, i moved up to the counter as she walked to the back of the store putting packages away. i waited for a few more minutes and thought she was busy, so i didn’t say a word and kept waiting.. waited for another 10 minutes or so and she still looked "busy", moving packages around without saying a single word to me. my mom who was standing by the door was getting mad because she had to get back to work, i was very unhappy and was about to say something, right at this moment a white male in his 30s walked in and waited behind me, the woman walked to her counter pretended to be busy, gave me another quick glance and said "what do you want?" in a very uncomfortable tone. this was when i lsot my temper, yelled at her and said some nasty words, gave her the finger and walk out the store.

im not proud of what i did, but i must say it felt good. Just because im asian and a student doesn’t mean she can ignore me like that as a customer. im not going back there until she gets fired

Regardless, I BET it felt liberating to do such a thing. At places like Camera shops and computer stores, I'm never taken seriously. Even when I ask about a product to buy, they don't give me assistance and give it to older, more mature looking people. Boy do they get surprised when I whip out the money.......

those stores are franchises and I was considering buying into one of these when they took over all the Mailboxes ETC. stores. The profit margins on these stores is tiny and expect to pay higher prices. Most folks only use these places as a remote address to send and receive packages.
