I have a Fidelio X1 & OTL tube amp (from MBP)... how do I proceed? - Page 2

Yeah, I keep toying with the idea of getting a DT770 or 990 but every time I visit the beyer comparison thread it puts me off with the talk of nonexistent mids. I'm sure a tube amp would improve that but the bigger issue is that I still don't really know what sound sig I like. I don't know how everyone seems to find it so easy to do a fourier transform of music in their heads! I'll probably just order a pair off amazon where it's dead easy to return stuff. Annoyingly all the recommended closed headphones these days are portables with tiny impedances and comfort issues!

Could I potentially damage the X1 by playing it through the Bottlehead Crack OTL? I know it's designed for high impedence cans (which X1 is not)

Nah, as long as you don't use them as loudspeakers! They won't have much electrical damping and will be accentuated around upper bass where there is a hump in impedance, along with the normal colouration of the amp.
