I have a very old pair of cans from the 80's that are still crystal clear but with todays' music and movies they seriously lack bass.

What I'd like is some suggestions for a headphone amp, preferably on Amazon with Prime shipping, that will kick the bass through the roof bit not break my piggy bank at the same time.

Thoughts anyway?

Reply or PM as you see fit.

Thanks in advance for any help.

A pair of Sony MDR CD1000's.

Yes I do have new headphones, but these are just so stunningly clear and heck the sound is still perfect after so many decades I'm just curious how they would sound if thy could have some bass added to the mix.

So my request stands - an amp that will blast the bass and only set me back a meadium number of shiny coins.

My Schiit Magni 2 Uber has uber bass and uber everything else -- but it depends on the headphones you use!

Don't rely on an amp to deliver things that primarily rely on your headphones. Most headphones don't even need an amp to get better bass out of them, and even with the ones that do, the improvements usually aren't as drastic as you may think.

If you want to boost the bass of your existing headphones, use EQ.

I have amps on both of my new headphones - testing them with and without the amps from various sources and various sound media the sound including the bass change actually is pretty drastic.

Thanks for the rec, I'll check out the model you mention.

Those cans are from about 1992.

Have you tried to EQ them through your audio chain?

I have to admit I fell prey to some branding marketing but I think I ended up with some good stuff.

For flac files on my media player I have a V-Moda True Blood V80 model paired with a Brainwavz amp.

For CDs and movies from my Denon home theater receiver I have Motorhead cans top of the line Motorizer model paired with a Syba amp whch has a tick more juice and bass than the Brainwavz.

In all the combinations I did testing of I got the most boost in the bass and sound quality coming off the receiver.

That was my very first purchase - amps to try and get some more bass out of the 1000's.

It was a sucess in it's on right as in the bass DID get noticably better/louder but still wasn't as much as I hoped and that's when I went shipping for new cans.

I have not tried any EQ'ing.

Now that you mention it I do have an EQ somewhere, I recall I tried in on my Yahama Z1 years ago and for some reason that escapes me at the moment it just wasn't working right.

I may try that route again - good call.

THANKS to eveyrone who chimed in.

I pursued the EQ solution and dug out my old trustworth Audiosource EQ-11 - pushed the bass sliders up ("these go to 11") and the old 1000 cans have had bass life breathed into them.
