Is the headpone amp on AKG Hearo 999 good enough for my Sennheiser HD600?

I have a HD600 headphone on hand, just wondering whether it is worth to buy AKG Hearo 999 for my HD600. I heard from AKG technician that they can work together. But not sure how good the working is.

My questions are:
1. Is the signal on the output of Hearo 999 good enough for HD600? I am not sure whether I should buy a better headphone amp like Grace model 901?
2. Is HD600+Headroom Little(Premium) better than HD600+Hearo 999?
3. Is HD600 overkill to Hearo 999?

I appreciate very much if someone can give me some advice.

Did anyone try the headphone amp on Hearo 999 before?

It's pretty new and pretty expensive ($1200). The review I read suggests that it mucks with the sound a lot, which people around here don't seem to go for much.

More FACT on Hearo 999

1. The Hearo 999 I am talking about is "AKG Hearo 999 AudioSphere Digital Processer". It has no Wireless Capability. But do have headphone amp for hardwired headphone.

2. In US, the street price of "AKG Hearo 999 AudioSphere Digital Processer" is about USD415.

3. Per AKG people, depending upon the impedance of the headphones, on the jack-output of Hearo 999, I will get per channel:
600 ohms - 6,9 V/79.35 mW
120 ohms - 5,9 V/291,9 mW
75 ohms - 5,35V/381 mW
55 ohms - 4,89V/435 mW
32 ohms - 3,97V/492 mW
19 ohms - 3,04V/480 mW
As an example, the sound pressure level achievable thereby with AKG 600 ohm models:
K 141 monitor - 117 dB SPL
K 240 monitor - 107 dB SPL
K 240 DF - 107 dB SPL

Look like the headphone amp in Hearo 999 has enough power to drive HD600, is my understanding correct?

4. Per Hearo 999 user menu, I can disable all digital siginal processing e.g. "Dolby Digital" on it, so it can act as pure headphone amp. Then the next question is how good the headphone amp on Hearo 999 is.

Hope someone can help me on this.

1. No, it isn't.
2. I don't know the Little, but even a Corda HA-1 does noticably better than the Hearo processor...
3. Yes, it is.

I strongly doubt the part about the missing wireless capability. AKG just not only sells the combo, but the wireless phone and the processor separately as well... Well, sold actually, because it has already been replaced by the Audiosphere II, which is said to do significantly better - especially the phone...

My impression...

My impression so far is the headphone amp on Hearo 999 is a piece of "Junk" if I compare it to Headroom Little. Hope this is correct, so I can forget buying Hearo 999 for my HD600.

It's uninformed bunk like this that caused the HEARO 999 to fail in the marketplace. It was and is good enough to be used in mastering studios. It drives my K601 cans to perfection. This is an old thread, but if somebody finds a good HEARO 999 Audiosphere II system at a good price on the used market, it would be good to snap it up.

 

Yes, the processor settings changed the sound, but if it didn't, then nothing would be getting processed. Certain settings are only to be used in certain situations, and you can run the headamp straight up with no signal processing.

 

If you are looking to drive the K601, then it is one of the best headamps out there for that purpose. On a Senn HD600, you might have trouble in the bass unless you wanted more bass weight. The headamp was voiced for the best AKG pro cans.
