I agree. FiiO has been dealing with a lot of crazy, unrealistic requests for the X7 and even when it's close to production there are still massive requests for some significant changes. To be honest the X3 was pretty weak IMO with the layout of the buttons but I bought one on launch because of the price/performance ratio (sold it as soon as the X5 was released). I guess that not everyone can be pleased.

I agree, it looks like a smartphone, but I don't really care. I agree that pressing buttons on one side will be more difficult when there are symmetrical buttons on the other side. Too bad they didn't stick with a couple of their earlier designs. All I know is that if the X7 sounds close to what I think it will based on the hardware spec so far the unit will be a steal of a DAP at its price.

Then again who really knows how the interaction and SQ will be until it gets in people's hands. Waiting patiently.

The X7 is going to be my first DAP and I am excited about the modular system, means I can get a balanced card with dual 3.5 trrs jacks.

Also, just received a loaner Oppo PM3 unit as part of their loaner program. Its my first time trying a planar headphone and loving it thus far. Definitely different from dynamic drivers.

Hmm as long as the performance is up to scratch, the rest is icing on the cake, for me atleast. But I suppose I will be using it around the house and indoors mostly as I don't listen to music outside aside from commuting. So I am satisfied with what they are planning so far.

Here's an example of how willing FiiO is to please its customers.... Changeable DACs have been hinted at by James. I mean, who else would consider this. I don't know. It could be a total fail or the most versatile device in the market. I guess some sacrifices need to be made when you allow that much versatility to satisfy everyone. Let's hope this isn't the case.

Hifiman has interchangeable cards, as it looking like a cell phone it doesn't matter to me. I would love it actually if it had the form factor of a phone but the sound of a AK dap.

Hmmm. Haven't heard of the N5 yet, but USD = ouch;)

Have to look into it.

Sorry guys, didn't mean to come off so critical about X7.  The only negative I have is about button layout.  I can guarantee I will be pushing power button instead of Play in my pocket lol!!!  I'm sure it's going to be an awesome sounding DAP, I have no doubt about it.  I just put it on a very high pedestal in my mind, and while being FiiO fanboy and supporter - I wanted them to WOW everybody with their debut android release since it clearly targets A&K audience.  I just hope some of the feedback can get to them and they can still make minor cosmetic changes, regarding the feel of the buttons to distinguish functionality of left side from the right side (have no idea why I'm so fixated on it lol!!!).  The same way when I got my X5ii review unit, the pre-production wheel was very loose and hard to use, that almost ruined my experience of otherwise a fantastic DAP.  Got my hands on production replacement and it's night'n'day.  For me personally, experience of usability is almost as important as sound quality.  Call me Shallow Audio-Hal :D

Cayin N5 will have balanced, but you'll need an adapter to get to dual 3.5mm. If it sounds anything like the Cayin C5, it's going to be very interesting!

And man, we've got to get you hooked up with some good planars wink_face.gif

See above...

I'm excited for this one as long as it shares sound sig and sq with the C5, and the combined HO + LO doesn't blast my ears off like my DX90 has a couple times eek.gif

Not interchangeable DACs. I don't even want to know what kind of challenge that would present FiiO. It just may have the sound quality of an AK if they don't let the desktop Sabre 9018 get the best of them.

Hmm but that will be strictly offline music only right? with no support for streaming services? But nonetheless I am interested in seeing how it sounds. I plan to use my DAP as an USB DAC as well so thats why I am excited about the X7. And it also runs android so spotify will be available. Modular system sounds dope as well.

Now I see why everyone was ragging on the PM3. Hmm, a bit disappointed with the PM3 after some more extensive listening. Is this how all Planars sound? it lacks dynamics, sounds harsh and is not engaging at all. I have heard plenty of neutral gear that is engaging but this thing is all over the place. Good in some songs, and painful in others. Hmm a mixed bag. Its off my list for sure. Really glad I got it tho, these are so comfortable!

No, not at all. The Oppo cans have their own take.

Yup, Oppo just squashed the sound in those cans. Quite disappointing IMHO...
