Detachable cable question - Ohm rating for connectors vs headphone impedance?

Sorry, I asked this already in the cables thread, but I suppose this might be better noticed. It'll probably not take more than a single reply to clarify.

Okay, so I want to modify some headphones with a 70 ohm impedance to have a detachable cable, so I was thinking of picking up some mmcx connectors, which are tiny enough to not have to do any real cutting away to fit properly. Thing is, the mmcx connectors are rated at 50 ohms. Will this degrade the quality of sound or hurt the headphones in any way?

I was also thinking of using MCX connectors which will also fit, and have a higher ohm rating of 75. Now is it better to be a bit higher or lower when it comes to such things, or does this not even matter at all? My electrical knowledge is rather basic, but I'm learning as I go. From what I've read, 50 to 75 can hurt a signal, but does also factor into headphones?

I'm guessing that it will, but I'm also concerned about using a 75 ohm connector since it's a touch higher.

Any help will be much appreciated for quenching my OCD here. XP

You don't want the cable or connectors of your headphones to have any impedance. Those connectors you mentioned are intended for RF signals which must be impedance matched to avoid reflections. This is not a problem in the audible frequency range. The impedance in the connector will not damage anything, but you definitely don't want it there either because it will lower the damping factor and reduce the efficiency of your headphones.

Thank you, MindsMirror, that helps quite a bit. So then, you're saying that it's inadvisable to use these connectors for headphone terminations?

Any extra added connector/plug/solder links will infuence/degrade the SQ badly.
I had modded/get rid the internal cabling links of my headamp, which was using print connectors/plugs to direct cable to printboard solderjoints.
SQ improves immensly, it lifted the layer of "muffled"' sound and everthing sounds more balanced/clearer/opener/airlier etc.

This is good to know! I did not notice any real difference on my CD3k when I did a detachable cable mod, to be honest, but maybe I'm just oblivious? The connector is fastened with the original cabling. I can imagine why the quality might degrade, but with studio monitors these days favoring detachable cables, is that necessarily true? I think I head that some people even like hardwiring the HD800, so perhaps so.

If you can't hear differences, then its good, human hearing has wide drifting adapting tolerance if you can't do A/B testing.
DIY "Audiophiles" will always try to minimize any degrading components/factors in the audiochain.
