AudioQuest NightHawk Impressions and Discussion Thread

I was thinking about buying some of these. I see they are on amazon right now for $348.

Are they worth this? I also don't really want to buy an amp/dac again which I've bought and sold before.

Are they good enough out of an iphone 6s plus?

Thanks

Yes...IMO.  They can be driven directly without an amp.  I don't know if it's biocellulose drivers....but I just love the overall sound of these.  They do all things well.

Not sure I was a believer in burn-in before.....now I am.  These proved it to me.

I alternate between these and the HD800's....and the 800's require Sonarworks in order for me to enjoy them.  Love the Nighthawks.  I am using a Teac HA-501 as an amp, but I think you would be happy directly from your iphone.  Just give them a chance after you get them.  I'm glad I did.  Also thanks to the many posters on here....your opinions were spot on.

Had my NightHawks for a long while. Love them.

With the NightOwls, the 'want' is as strong as the 'need' isn't.

So, genuine question: as a NH fan, is there any point at all in getting a closed-back version of a headphone I've already got? The only justification is isolation and sound leakage? Or are there other differences I can expect just by virtue of the closed-back being a closed-back?

What are you guys finding the leak levels on these are like? Would they work in a busy work environment at medium volume levels?

Moderate. The grill kinda diffuses the sound a bit but they're certainly not "closed".

If you're worried about bothering people, I used them in a work environment at fairly mid/low levels and no one said they were bothered, and just enough sound got held in.

I'd keep an eye on the Nightowl if isolation is a concern though (actually, I'd be interested in the NO anyway!).

Yes, nightowl is interesting but will be twice the current price of the nighthawk.,..

Augh really? D: I didn't look.

If you're talking about a place of moderate noise, though, like some noise coming out of your set won't bother anyone? Go for it. They're not wide open like Senns or anything. My main reservation was if I wanted to risk having expensive headphones in the workplace. XD

Like some others here, I like the NightHawks so much I'm probably going to get a second pair, just to have. Headphones like the Sennheiser 650 I've always thought to be 'nice'-- happy to have them for occasional decent, non-offensive listening-- but they always leave me feeling a bit tepid in reaction. The Nighthawks on the other hand have managed to be both smooth/easy to listen to/laid back, and yet much more engaging-- both more refined and dynamic. Both beautiful and involving for me. (And aesthetically/visually/physically more appealing). A brilliant combination of attributes. And priced so reasonably. A real success of a product. Long Live the NightHawk!

A closed version could be tuned for a stronger bass response than is possible with a semi open design, however I doubt it will be a bass monster. 'Hawks seem to be cheaper here in NZ than anywhere else, so fingers crossed the NightOwl will follow suit.

Glad I got the liquid wood before they discontinue it.

In my case it's hard to listen to the HD650 after the NightHawk but it's probably because of my Prog-Metal music.
