My new speakers!!

I've just got some new speakers. They are Rega Ela Mk2's and they sound absolutely fantastic. I paid only $400 for these speakers (RRP is $1,300) and cosmetically they are not great, they have marks on them and are ugly little blighters, but OMFG do these things boogey!!

Compared to my old speakers (Mission M51) they sound so much more refined and have much more finesse, but also they are more upfront and dynamic. The bass is not as bloated (or bloated at all for that matter) but nice and punchy. The midrange is absolutely sublime, vocals sound really, really nice. The overall sound is upfront and lively but never harsh and quite forgiving too. I am very happy so far....

Here is a (poor) picture....

I can say this, these speakers DEFINITELY deserve the title of "groovalizer" - these boogy like nothing I've heard before... I am onto a winner with these

Yes the television always gets looked over in favour of audio goodies in this room!

Some people do the opposite though - like my folks - nice telly, crap speakers

Congrats! These are the older version with slightly sloped cabinetry at the top, correct? If so, a buddy of mine's had the same for several years. Powering them with an Audiolab integrated and he loves 'em. You're right about the bass being tight and the overall sound being forward without being bright or fatiguing. Perfect for the kind of stuff he listens to (modest mouse, appleseed cast, pixies). Enjoy!

Yep, this is the one with a sloped front, and 3 spikes on each speaker (yet are remarkably stable considering), and they have one of the sweetest sounds I've heard. Its actually turned this digital system into something that almost sounds analogue!

Good work my DT531 endowed friend! I though you were so attached to the sound signature of your former speakers that you'd never part with them. I am definitely more interested in speakers after hearing Orpheus' studio system, but alas that will have to wait some years until I have a good place to put those speakers in.

Hey ID, yeah I was quite attached to the speakers, but to be honest the lure of getting £750 for less than 1/3 of the price was more than tempting... and now that I've got these, they make the others sound a bit boring to be honest.

I still think for the £300 the old ones retailed for, they were decent speakers, but they had little in the way of finesse, and are severely upstaged by these ones.

they look err bold! yet refined and somewhat dignified.

hey! we've got that tv in our student house. bought it from a rental place as a ex-rental unit. Don't diss it, its a party tv! it must have a hidden sub or somthing in there, because im amazed each time we put music channels on. The bass is BIG!
