This is such a good album. Highly recommended. I love the songs "Dry your eyes" and "Blinded by the lights". The whole album is awesome. Very listenable. The cockney accent is cool too. Do yourself a favour, snap up this album.

I bought it today, and I've had it downloaded since it first came out.
Godly.

Might just have to get this one too -- thanks for the heads up. I've had Original Pirate Material for about a year now and still get a kick out of it. ^_^

Wasn't "Blinded by the Lights" a song (or at least a lyric) from Original Pirate Material?

A grand don't come for free is my first album by them. I think it is very entertaining and has a couple of good songs on it. His rhyming style is very unique and he weaves an enganging storyline, but other than a few tracks the beats are god awful. hmmm unmelodic music... I sense this album becoming very respected by pitchfork.

Though, I would gladly put up with the beats to hear about something besides money and b*tches like the majority of gansta-garbage we have over here.

You know, don't mean to be a whiner here (alright, yes I do), but could we get a better description than "awesome"? Thanks.

Alright.
It's actually one british guy, Michael Skinner.
Rap with an electronica vibe, house/garage to be exact.
This album in particular is actually a concept album about well, a day in his life.

But then again, Pitchfork dissed Soundtrack of Our Lives: Behind the Music, and I completely disagree with the reviewer on all points on that one, so just goes to show reviewers can't guess your musical backround or tastes.

That said, I want to get this cd too.

This album is like the antithesis of modern pop-rap music.

Modern Rap is about empty lyrics, smooth beats, and musical delivery, basically fluff for the senses.

Streets is about brilliant storytelling, amateur beats and amateur delivery. How much of that "amateur" is intentional is anybody's guess.

If you could imagine what an indie hipster's idea of quality rap would be, Streets is it. White Stripes is to Creed as Streets is to 50 Cent.

The beats have a raver quality to them, beyond the obvious blinding lights song, and are very simplistic. The vocals are delivered haltingly and in spoken word fashion. Every once in a while he does the "rapper singing" thing which is always alot of fun, but alot of times he has rather competent background singers.

Grand album. After the popularity and fame he has gotten from his first album, I would have expected him to come out with something along the lines of how he gets girl or love stories.

But no, instead he sings about bank queue's, TV repair man and a lovely lovely simple story about how he tries to hold on to a relationship. I've been there and simply totally related to it.

What does The Streets sounds like ? Brilliant and sacarstic lyrics, simply repetitive beats on a keyboard, and simply someone who remains as underground as he was before he became famous I guess..

You'll need a few listen to adjust his rapping to the background beat though, because usually at first listen you'll find that both of them 'clashes' for attention, but after a while, they starts to blend in and complements each other.

This is something you either would love or hate, sadly. But so far I'm glad most of them are love ...

Been listening to his 1st album loads lately.  The later albums I just dont enjoy anywhere near as much.

I think The Irony Of It All is definitely the cleverest and best track imo.

when this album first came out it didn't leave the CD changer in my car for over a year.

One of the probably top 5 albums of the '00's
