Several weeks ago I posted an entry with my initial impressions of my new Layla IEMs.  In my eagerness I plugged the Layla into my Mac and was playing some low resolution audio from iTunes and my initial impression wasn’t good. I was wondering if I had made a serious mistake with my purchase.  I didn’t accept this since there were several very complimentary reviews of the Layla’s so I started playing with my setup an the bass setting of the Layla.  After around an hour I finally hit nirvana.   The setup ended up being my Mac running Media Center or Vox playing FLAC and DSD audio => Geek Out 100 => my Layla’s set at 1 o’clock.  I was amazed at the transparency,  detail and the sound stage width the Layla presented.  I also found that over the next 25 hours of listening the Layla’s opened up and were less analytical. I was surprised at the burn-in since I have not experienced that with my other IEMs.  At about 50 hours some I found I was totally addicted to them.  I've gone back to the original Mac/iTunes and found that it sounds much better than my original impression.

I have never experienced any change in balanced armatures after hundreds of hours, I think it's more of you brain getting used to the sound. I am into DIY ciem, and have talked with Knowles engineers about burn in they all have told me they have heard of people making claims about it but there is no evidence of any changes over long hours. If burn in was to change the sound in a BA it would be measurable on a frequency chart. And if it where to change then the BA's would be out of specifications they were set for and overall change the sound signature of who ever is making them. I have measured them before and after long periods with no change.  Acoustic dampers will degrade over time and change it more then anything.  But dynamic drivers definitely change with burn in, I think its more of brain burn in there has been plenty of BA iem's I haven't liked in the beginning and after a couple hours I likes them.

If people hear changes for the better then more power to them. I was supposed to listen too the Angie and Layla this weekend but things didn't work out in my time schedule. I am going to purchase one of them or the ACS Encore. Still haven't decided yet. But from every ones impressions the Layla are the best sounding iem. I don't know if the Laylas or Angies would be practical for me at work since there so big. And when I am home I only use my desktop rig. I wouldn't have a problem getting the custom versions but I think the wait is very long.

Soon soon haha. :) Placed only a few hours on the Angie as of yet. But brief impressions had me thinking that the SE846 is simply amazing. What Shure can do with a 4 drivers as compared to Angie's 8 drivers is simply brilliant and nothing short of amazing. For now I would say angie is definitely not going to replace 846 or stomp over it. But they do have their differences. :)

Not what I expected to hear for early impressions, but awesome to know regardless!

Take your time, just excited is all. :)

Haha I understand most would have high expectations of the Angie. It's definitely not bad. In fact it's good! But the 846 with its currently pricing lower than the Angie poses a good challenge and a good fight. One thing for sure is that Angie is seriously huge! :scream:
