i'm connecting my first amp to my pc. I have schiit vali amp and Toshiba laptop. I could use help on how to connect and what cables I need to get.

You would need a RCA to 3.5 cable, your onboard laptop audio won't do the vali any justice by it self. Upgrading the source to a modgi dac would do more justice as it works well with the vali amp.

does modi come with proper cables to connect?

I don't think it so you will need a usb cable and a RCA to RCA cable, just make sure its the usb modgi that you select,Tho monoprice sell cheap cables if you dont have any laying around.
