HELP! Fix broken senheiser IE8i or buy IE80 or something similar

the problem

So i have the senheiser ie8i's and up until yesterday they worked fine. I stepped on the one of in ear monitors in the dark and from there i lost sound, so without much thought i proceeded  to mess with the connection from to cord to the earphone. While i was doing this the earphone housing broke completely off from the cord.

possible solution

apparently senheiser has a repair that would fix them for $165 USD flat rate and that got me thinking, how much for a new set? well more then i pad 3 year ago when i purchased them new (around $300).  so I took a look at the IE80s and I can get it  a like new set from Amazon with the warranty for  under 240 bucks.  That's said the IE 80s are probably similar in sound but I lose the track/mic function that I did use on occasion on the IE8i.

the question

My question to you guys is should I fix the ones I have, buy the new IE80s or maybe look at something else similar and if so what models?  Keep in mind that I do like a warmer sound as I listen to a lot of rock and metal and I've had the westone 3 and um3x and to me the bass was lacking.  I would prefer something with a remote/mic that works with an iPhone as well always be under 250,  I wouldn't be opposed to buying something refurbished as long as it came with a warranty.

thanks in advance

Tough call - and one that I struggled with myself after breaking the shell of my favorite Westones. I ultimately decided not to send them in for repair, but I'm still hanging onto them just in case I change my mind. I have also considered trying to send them to someone that could make CIEMs out of them. Having to buy new headphones because you broke the old ones is the *worst* - you have to spend the money and you don't get the benefit of expanding your collection and trying something new with the safety of being able to revert back to the old favorites.

thanks for the sympathy, any ideas on a replacement set?

It sounds like you are going to want dynamic drivers (like your IE8i) not BA drivers (like in the Westone) - or maybe a hybrid.

I have not heard these - so please read the reviews - how about the Dunu DN-1000?
