Durable over the ear headphones around $100... in Canada (MDR-7506@$125?)

I'm looking for a Christmas gift for my brother.  He wants a new set of over the ear headphones for use on his computer. That means gaming & music. His two important factors - of course other than sound quality - are durability (VERY important), and noise isolation.

A few hours of research have brought me to the Sony MDR V6 / 7506. These seems pretty solid, but also seem quite pricey here in Canada compared to what I've read people having bought them for. Here they cost roughly $130 (from reputable, non-ebay sources to avoid getting a fake), and are pretty hard to find. People seem to be raving about these headphones based on them costing $70 or $80.

So, are they still the best option in the "around $100" price range at $130? Or are there better headphones for the money these days? As i mentioned, durability is the most important feature, followed by noise isolation.

Thanks

How much is the M50 there? Not the M50x but the regular M50. Those should be cheaper and are durable and a nice step up from the Sony

Amazon.ca has it CDN $145 ($130USD) - that's ridiculous!

Have you checked to see what the shipping is to Canada from B&H?

I did check B&H :(. With shipping & customs it comes to $112. Factor in the exchange rate (x1.1), and that's roughly $124 CDN. There is one store locally that sells them for $120 CDN.

Unfortunately the amazon.com one won't even let me order - simply says shipping is unavailable to Canada. And I see you've visited the wonder that is amazon.ca -- the site where the prices are made up and the exchange rate doesn't matter!

The M50x is roughly $138. The M50 is either more expensive (amazon), or I can't find it.

Agreed. The Takstar has a great price-to-performance ratio, especially in the $60 USD they usually go for.

Hate to be redundant, but what is durability like for the Takstar? As an average consumer i've never heard of the brand before.

Edit: I just notced the Audio Technia M50 (not M50x) on sale for $100 on Black Friday. Durability good? Should I pull the trigger?

Durability of the Takstar is much like your regular studio monitors -- solid and should take a beating.

I wouldn't personally recommend the M50 to you (it's not as good as they say), but if all you care about is for them to take a beating and still sound good, then that's all up to you.
