I'm looking to get my first DAP. The FiiO X5 and AK 100 mk 1 (now available in the UK for £399 compared to the X5 at £289) both look attractive as relatively affordable DAP's that will allow me to get a taste of the improvement that's available when moving beyond iPhone/iPod.

I use reasonable quality IEM's (Etymotic ER4, Sure SE425) - and do most of my listening on trains and planes - listening to a wide range of music, but with classical being what I really care about in terms of audio quality.

With the AK100 now available at a pretty good price I'm tempted to go for it for a taste of the Wolfson dac sound.

How does the X5 compare? Or, should I stretch for the AK120?
