Headphones for the Holidays

Thread Starter

The Christmas shopping season is coming up which means I am in the mood to give gifts, particularly of an audio nature.

I would like to give something that isn't too expensive but would certainly lead to an improvement in sound. Most of my friends use basic apple style ear buds. I was thinking of making a basic work setup which would have a DAC like the HiFiMAN and a DIY amp like CMoy. I wanted to give some headphones to go along with it like the Grado SR60e or the Philips TX2.

I don't know everything there is to know about headphones so I wanted to know if any of you knew of some newer or older equipment that is similar to what I am thinking? I would prefer to DIY because I think it gives a nice personal touch but if something sounds insanely good for $10 then I would probably change plan. For headphones I prefer to stay under $100.

Thanks!
