The ZX2 is only about $40CAD cheaper through Price Japan (all taxes and whatnot included); not to mention if I order through Price Japan I run the risk of the CBSA slapping on a hefty import tariff and a taxable service fee. Guess I should order one through Sony Canada if I decide I want one.

I'm still very much on the fence about getting this. For the price, it ought to have better hardware and software. Particularly disappointing to me is the screen. An 854 x 480 TFT display? It should be at least a FHD IPS if not a high resolution AMOLED display like those found on Android smartphones. Sure you don't buy the ZX2 for the screen but it is a premium product; should it not have premium parts as well?

If I do get one, do you guys think it's worth keeping my PHA-3 and pairing them? Or should I get the ZX2 and sell off my PHA-3? Or should I just get a cheaper DAP (like the A17) and pair it with the PHA-3?

It depends what you are using for the ZX2 to drive? For desktop full sized cans you'll definitely need an amp. If you're mainly using IEMs with easy to drive portable cans then the ZX2 is enough.

If you want to use the PHA-3 and need a transport, the A17 is more than enough.

I'll be using some IEMs but I'll also be using the HE-500s which aren't too difficult to drive but not the easiest to drive either. The reason I'd like to keep the PHA-3 is mainly for the balanced output but it's not the most pocket-able/portable thing around so I'm torn. redface.gif

Lol you'll need to keep the PHA-3 then. If you don't care for DSD or Wifi streaming apps then you could stick with the A17 :P

Can any current users chime in on whether the ZX2 supports Replaygain or any other normalisation?

Do you mean keep the PHA-3 for driving the HE-500s or for the balaced output (or both?)?
Don't have and DSD media so that's not a selling point but I would like to have access to my Google Play Music...guess I'll have to spring for the ZX2 redface.gif

Been reading this thread right from the start and am about to pull the trigger on this but, Calyx M's price in China is very attractive (30% cheaper). Does anyone have both players or have enough experience to give comments?

Also, does anyone have the Chinese version? In china they come with a 64 GB card and a different case i think

I agree on all of your points. If they dropped Android alone the battery time would skyrocket. The screen should offer better resolution and the CPU more power. I remember playing with a Sony phone when I still had the ZX1 and it contained the very same version of Android. The Sony phone would chew through the procedures thrown at it while the same on the ZX1 were merely acceptable. There is no real competition at that price point so Sony knows they can stick it to us.

For me the ZX2 should contain 256Gb internal + non-Android software possible Flash and USB3 output and then I would understand it's price.

Regards your question it all depends on what you want to achieve. If you intend to keep the ZX2 for a considerable time and need DSD or wifi streaming then get it otherwise buy the cheaper A17 and wait for the ZX3.

If you want to power Headphones then you need an amp, keep that for sure.

Go to the Calyx M thread, most if not all people who have tried both prefer the M although the battery life and UI are bested easily by the ZX2

Agreed! If it was non-Android, high-res AMOLED display with USB 3.0 out I would get it in a heart beat. The way it is now and for that price, I'm still having second thoughts.

True, most have quoted to say Calyx M has a smoother-easier to listen sound signature. If there are members who could shed more light to this, it will be most helpful.

I will wait for the ZX4.  Rumors says that it will be better than the ZX3.
