Users with ZX2 + XBA-Z5 if you use them with SE don't you feel it is underpowered for the Z5? what about in BAL (TRRS)mode, still underpowered?

Having my ZX100 back from russia and listening to it i feel it is underpowered for these IEM , tho still better than a cellphone.

Hoping WM1A will drive these fine

ZX2 has sufficient power to drive any IEM, though some users may be using it with headphones that are hard to drive and thus may add another amp. It could also be due to those having EU model with volume cap, but it does not affect IEM users since it gets breaking loud for IEM far before the volume cap.

My ZX2 is operating at 15-20% volume (with the sound enhancement disabled) with my Z5, and it is over-powering for some songs, even at 20% volume. This is with SE.

I don't use headphones, and only using a couple of IEMs, with the Z5 permanently on the ZX2, since it is the best match for me. Bought the original Sony upgrade cables (actually bought 2 sets as it is so good) and sent 1 of them for re-termination with a Oyaide 3.5mm TRRS plug - not for more power, but just to try out the better soundstage and other benefits of having it "balanced" (technically, an incomplete balance).

Got back my Sony upgrade cable, re-terminated into 3.5mm TRRS jack. Using balanced with Z5 on my ZX2.

Confirmed that with this new TTRS plug, cannot use it on iPhone/iPad anymore as only left side got sound. Weird though, as it plays on both sides when I plug it into my laptop connection.

With ZX2, left, right, up, down all got sound

Who did your re-termination? I'm waiting to get mine back from Toxic cables, hopefully today. Fingers crossed!

You should have kept your ZX100 until the WM dap came out and then get rid of either depending on your liking.
Z5 is an easy to drive iem and will have subtle differences but won't be leaps and bounds.
If you have something like JH audio then getting rid of ZX100 for the WM will make sense.
Then there is the cost, looks, internals and other differences which will make you come to a conclusion.

Have been listening to my ZX2 with XBA-Z5 in "Balanced" mode using the Sony Upgrade Cable re-terminated with Oyaide 4-poles TRRS plug.

Not sure if it is the special elements of ZX2 in balanced mode, or the XBA-Z5 reacting different with balanced mode, but wow... the sound!

You will enjoy this!

Wonder what other TRRS plugs are available? Any finding of rhodium-plated ones, or those "L" plugs? Only found straight plugs so far, but kind of like the L-plugs.

Anyway, very happy with my ZX2 with Z5 in balanced mode, and not looking out for other DAP or IEMs.
