I've been waiting since last year when my zx2 was stolen... Long wait.

Qp1r is a bit better sq and volume wise, but, if I had to choose, I'd keep my zx2 for overall experience.

I second this as well. The qp1r has more power and drive full size phones better. However,, the user experience is much better with the zx2.

i have a zx2 and a QP1R too and is true the QP1R has more power , but , for exemple with the ie800 with the zx2 it plays loud enough (more than enough) and the zx2 has a "magic" feeling in the sound that Qp1r don't , maybe is coloration is not has pure has qp1r ( that i love too) but is very pleasing to ear, thats way i have both, and a few others...

Well, good news is that the leaks suggested the Gold Walkman is perhap a limited production run , similar to AK Copper version. Instead of charging premium for only limited run as AK, the Gold walkman has dual Ports, beefier circuitry, and DSD native...etc....and since many leak and rumors suggested it price at 3k....we gotta go with that

However, there will be a regular version that is the successor to Zx2

So it is looking that this new Gold walkman is to be a Unique offer from Sony after all. Rich people can scoop it up smily_headphones1.gif

So, when is Sony going to offer adapter cables for the 3 different types of balanced jack on their various products?  I feel pretty stupid getting the balanced Kimber upgrade cables for the Z5 and Z7 for the PHA-3 and then they don't work on the ZX2 or whatever the new thing is. Makes Sony brand loyaly a very difficult thing.  At least A&K picked a balanced cabling standard and sticks to it.  Same for HIFIMAN (though I wish they were the same).

Please help me to understand.

Zx2+fio L5 = analog line out, very low, but correct for pairing with an hamp.
In this way zx2 act as a DAC and do not amplify the output signal:it only decode it to analog.

But why if I use pha3 analog output (with zx2 paired to it digitally with the stock cable) I have a much stronger output level ?

This means that pha3, after decoding the zx2 digital signal, apply a sort of amplification ?
So the signal si amplified two times before feeding an headphone amp ?

In this case is better the first option despite the very low output ?

Zx2 line out has low power

Pha3 with Zx2 digitally feeding it will results in pha-3 acting as DAC/Amp, and zx2 as transport. This was the way they were designed to do

Will something like this do some sort of adapter? TRRS to dual 3.5mm TRS
