Hidizs AP100 (DAP) Support Team - Now on Head-fi!

Here in the states, the price has fallen so that it's sometimes cheaper than the AP100.  Drat!

I did get the AP100 for a pretty good price which was about $200 USD so that's not bad. I really need to cut back on buying audio equipment so I figured I'd get the AP100 and use it until it dies...at least that's what I told my wife :) (I do still have the X3II)

I'm curious, Bruce... have you ever heard the Lotoo PAW 5000 which I consider my favorite "on the go" DAP, especially since it comes with an arm strap?

Yes heard of, looked into it a little.

No I haven't...I've looked at it online but it's a bit out of my price range.

^ ditto.It's $450AUD this way.

^ same.

The Paw 5000 is attractive, it is 40-50g lighter than the AP100, but I'm unsure as to whether it ticks all my boxes. I see it also has a dedicated EQ button, interesting, rare and I'd like to know more about how that button works and what it does when pressed during playback etc.

I do like to try new stuff (just bought a Colorfly C3 recently as it was relatively cheap), but maybe I try the paw 5000 if my AP100 dies in 2017 etc, but really I need to focus on getting out of my pocket money debt to which my camera hobby has put me in!
I'm also interested in the Headstage Arrow amp as I think it might be what I'm ultimately after.

It takes you into a mode where you can choose a great variety of settings, both preset and of your own design.  It’s a very versatile player.

It's never happened to me before and this is the second AP100 I've owned so I don't know. You could try to contact Hidizs support. Mine came with 075 already installed on it.

I've only had the BSOD occur a handful of times with my unit, its a lock up and requires a long press on the on/off to recover.
Each time it occurs I think it could be a certain bad file that triggers it, so I would first investigate that, remove all songs etc, try a new batch of files.

I'm not sure if that's a reset hole near the EQ button, could try using that?

I think that hole near the EQ button is a reset hole but again I've never had to reset mine or my old one. It's great to have the AP100 back...I forgot what a great DAP it is!

Yeh seems to be.
It might not be for me tho, or as useful as the AP100's EQ button. I came across another DAP that had a dedicated EQ button, but what it did was take you to a menu where u then had to press up or down to toggle onto a different eq preset. I far prefer the AP100 idea of that a single push of the EQ button toggles through the presets, that's far easier and better blind control than having to reach to another button thereafter etc. In essence I suspect the Paw 5000's dedicated EQ button saves a couple of button pushes by not having to go into a menu and delves into a couple of submenus, but unless a single push (and subsequent pushes toggles through presets/custom) then I don't think its utilised to it's fullest.
In years gone by I had set up my Cowon players to do a similar thing, leave the EQ menu open during the NPS and 'wake' the device up and toggle to the next preset etc, then toggle the screen back off. It worked pretty well, but after using the AP100 single EQ button it's definitely better than the rest.

I'm working on a DAP with a friend, we're discussing such features as the ability for the player to recall the EQ settings that the user likes most for that song, therefore bypassing the need for a EQ button entirely. For example, you play a song, tinker with the EQ, hear an improvement, hit save, and thereafter whenever that track is played again it will use those EQ settings.

This ultimately is what I think 'sound quality' means to me. It means hearing a given song in the very best possible way that pleases the user the most. There's a lot of variables, from available file type to headphones of choice, to recording quality to user preference (bass head and what not), but having a player that recalls the users preference for that track (or album) would be an excellent feature and certainly unique amongst the DAP world.

So wait, did u turn it on and it always autoresumed that track and each time it just rebooted itself upon playback. The time you said it works did it just not use the autoresume feature and load you into the Play and settings logo? Just trying to understand the problem exactly.

Yeh it is... I want to sit down further with mine and really devote a good hour of EQ fine tuning with it in combination with the SRC button, see if I can't improve more on what is already a very pleasing sound.

no it was rebooting to play and settings menu. like you update library and turn off, next time you turn it on it boots itself to play and settings menu. no infinite bootloop like you implied :D

today i used it without problems and now problem started again. will write to hidizs. again...
