Headphones + Speakers from soundcard

I have a Xonar STX at the moment which has the RCA outs and also a headphone amp, can newer sound cards or good onboard sound connect to headphones and a speaker amp at the same time? Headphones through the amplified headphone jack and speaker amp through the front speakers jack with a 3.5mm > RCA adapter? Or does the front speakers jack only work with 5.1 etc? I am going to buy a new motherboard and am thinking of selling my Xonar STX to save some money but I need a sound card that can output to my speaker amp and headphones (not at the same time but so I don't have to swap cables). For example this motherboard...

Or possibly a soundblaster Z or other cheaper soundcard..

Can I connect headphones to the amplified headphone jack and speaker amp to the "front speakers" non amplified jack with a 3.5mm > RCA adapter?

For example :

Connectivity Options (Main) Headphone: 1 x Amplified 3.5mm jack > (FOR HEADPHONES)
Speaker Out: 3 x 3.5mm jacks (Front,Rear,C/Sub) > WILL THE FRONT JACK WORK OUTPUTTING TO MY SPEAKER AMP VIA 3.5MM TO RCA ADAPTER? (THE SAME AS A STANDARD LINE OUT?)

Line / Mic In: 1 x 3.5mm jack
Optical Out: 1 x TOSLINK
Optical In: 1 x TOSLINK

Thanks.

Or looking at the Xonar DG it seems to share the 3.5mm headphone / front speaker out so you can have headphones OR speakers....

Analog Output
3 x 3.5 mm jack (1/8") (Front out/Side out/Center-Subwoofer out)
Analog Input
1 x 3.5 mm jack (1/8") (Line-in/ Mic-in combo)
Digital
1 x S/PDIF out (1 x Optical (Toslink))
1 x Front-Panel Header
1 x S/PDIF Header
1 x Aux-in (4-pin header)

But on some soundcards you have a headphone jack AND a front out.... If they have both I would be able to connect both speakers and headphones with an adapter? Obviously this works with my Xonar and more high end cards as they have RCA outs but I would like to be able to do this on a cheaper card via an adapter, not sure if it will effect the sound quality but I can only afford a new motherboard / PC if I sell the STX and use cheaper sound, which in the last few years seems that some motherboard and also cheap soundcards still have very good specs.
