Greetings,

First of all, I am new to the audiophile community. I have upgraded from Bose SIE2i to Shure SE846

To the main topic,
Recently, I have purchased Shure SE846 and I need to find my self a good set up to make these headphones to its full potential. I am currently using a iPod touch 4th Gen playing 256kbps MP3 Audio as my go to portable music player (I know its terrible that's why I need your help!). I know about flac files but unfortunately my iPod touch does not support it.

Please help me find a good DAP and amp for Shure Se846 to make it to its full potential.

I plan to spend $100 - $300 possibly $500.

I'm just a casual listener, but you'll probably have to spend at least the $500 to get the most out of that IEM. Get yourself a hi res audio player. A good one will cost you at least $300. The Sony NWZA17SLV & the FiiO X5 are good options. You'll also need hi res audio files that are in lossless format. HDtracks.com has a serviceable catalog of songs. Finally, you'll need a DAC. This is assuming that you want a portable set-up. Again, I'm only a casual listener, but I believe that's the bare minimum you'll need to get the most out of your IEM. Someone else will probably be able to give you more precise instructions. Enjoy those SE846s, man. I'll be in the corner with my SE425.

You don't need to spend that much on a dac/amp/dap to get the most of it

You don't need the E17 if you plan on getting the x5

The x5 is good enough alone for the se846.

  Thank you for the recommendation!

Would FiiO X5 + FiiO E12 be a good setup?

The Shure SE846 are only 9-Ohms, which means my $27 FiiO E6 amplifier could easily drive them.
So the FiiO X1 or X3 or X5 can easily drive the SE846s on their own.

He's looking for a proper DAP, not anything otherwise he would just keep his ipod. The se846 is picky and it will hiss with poor sources. You'll also get a ton of other problems because of that low impedance and high sensitivity especially if you use the x1
