Big Help Needed!!!

Hi,
I'm thinking real hard about using my left over Kenwood car cd/receiver to connect to my perreaux headamp. Has anyone try this here at this forum???
First, I really need some help switching the ICs from car parts to rca plugs in order to hook it up to headamp input rca. I guess it's like hooking power amp to receiver. Second, instead of using car battery power, how would I install the transformer or adapter to power the cd/receiver unit itself to normal US 110v.
To me, it would look really cool to have flashy instructment panel /sliding loading deck/cd and 10-memory tuner receiver on top of the perreaux.
Love to experiment new stuff and explore different possibilities.
Perfect fit and size for head gear
Thanx!

Make sure your deck has line level outputs. Don't fry your Perreaux There are convertors that will bleed off the power but the quality is always questionable and it may be have to be a custom job. I think pyramid might have switching supplies that can power your deck up.

The power supply for 12volts is the easy part. I've seen those all over.
They are kind of bulky, I would hide the power supply somewhere and run a wire to the deck.

Mount the deck in a box.
On the back of the box mount the rca jacks. Solder the line level out wires from the deck to the rca jacks.

Hi ooheadsoo,
I thought all car receivers have line ouptput in order to connect to power amp??? Where is the best place to buy these converter, power supply, etc?

Hi mr.pd,
my Kenwood is KDC-217. Are all car receivers 12V?
Soldering would do right?

Yes, all car receivers are 12 volt give or take a couple volts.
No, they don't all have line level outputs. I have one of those converters that ooheadsoo spoke of to connect the front channel of my old Kenwood to an amp.

If I was you, I would take the front channel line level wires and solder them directly to rca jacks that are mounted to a sturdy surface.

There are special power supplies for car decks. The ones I have seen were big boxes with a place to plug in a wire. I must admit that I didn't pay much attention to them. Car decks require more power than a wall wart type supply can put out.

I don't know a good place where you can buy one, I see them at a shop around here that sells second hand stuff and cheap car players etc. Here is a pciture of what I'm talking about. I found this at a store site called voltageconverters. com. It didn't seem too expensive.

Thanx mr.pd.
I see that 12V dc output and 110V ac input. Well how'bout 5-7amp? Is amp important?
For line level output, I will check it out on the deck.

Supposely, this cd receiver($130) will be better than my dvd/cd player($45)?
I know these car receivers can take the heat, cold, shocks hence they're extremely durable. Since they're cd dedicated, I hope these sound better than my cheap dvd/cd player.

I was wondering the same thing about the amp rating.
I don't know if the requirements are listed in the manual for your deck. One reasonable way to get an idea, is to see what the amp rating on the fuse is.

5-7 should be plenty for a mere cd player and tuner, basically. IIRC my tube preamp/headamp draws way less than an amp, as does my cd player.

It looks like a cool mod coming soon.
How' bout wiring? Can I use typical 14 gauge copper cable from my speaker cables???

I'm thinking about an acrylic clear box housing the cd/receiver. Maybe if I like it alot, I will replace the perreaux front panel to acrylic as well or the whole box. Many high-end turntables use acrylic. Is it because their rigidity and solidness resulting less vibration? What the hell! It looks cool anyway.
