I hear you on how heavy they are, but the pads are oh so comfortable.  I'll be giving them a listen this week at a nearby audio shop.

Yeah they are very nicely made and the ear pads are very thick and comfy almost too much so as they become sweaty quickly here in the tropics... what makes them uncomfortable and hurt is the combined weight and clamping force (no different than on the LCD-4s or my LCD-2s)

Just got my Alpha Prime in. I'm so, so happy with these headphones... MrSpeakers did some magic with this!

I've been listening to Flamenco and it's rather pleasant with the Prime.

I love them as well. Generally I listen to Chesky Binaural plus, lots of acoustic instruments and fabulous headphone oriented recordings.

More listening today along with some EQ play. Can't get over how good these perform. I'm going to switch to my Lyr 2 to give it a whirl! Been using it with an Audio-GD C-2 11th at 60% on low gain, and it just performs beautifully.

Quick question:  Is the difference between a new Alpha Prime and the upgraded Alpha Prime seen with where Alpha Prime is on the headphone?  For example, would a brand new Alpha Prime (not an upgrade) have "Alpha Primes" on the slider while an upgraded Alpha Prime will have "Prime" on the slider holder?

For some reason I've been second guessing whether or not mine are legit Alpha Primes considering that I did not receive a certificate when I bought them from another Head-Fi member.  My headphone has "Alpha Primes" in white on one of the sliders.

Thanks.

I cannot speak for the original but the upgraded model have the word prime etched into the black portion of the slider just over the ear cups. I posted a photo of that. I would hope you have originals and if you post a photo I imagine someone can help you out.

Originals are indeed marked on the slider. I recently upgraded and my sliders say Alpha Dog.

You'll need the certificate or verify with @mrspeakers to be sure, though.
