All that i know is that there is a list on Fiio website wich show the mobile devices full compatible with Fiio Andes. On recent Iphones you can use it as dac/amp only with camera kit.

Any device such as an iPad Mini and most tablets would have an 1/8" (3.5mm) TRS mini-plug output which feeds into your Fiio, so therefore there is no need of using DAC function. A Digital to Analog converter usually processes digital output from a computer and converts it into amplified analog (normal audio output). This usually requires a USB cable connection. Otherwise, you are simply using the Fiio amplifier function, and that's okay. If so, be sure you use a quality interconnect cable between your source device (iPad Mini) and your Fiio. Evergreen produces some excellent cables. Hope thus helps...

Thx for your answer. I have to dig a little more on that camera kit.

I wondered if I could use some kind of adapter to use the Fiio DAC functionality. I took note of those cables you suggested, thanks!

Regarding Evergreen cables (interconnect), they can be pretty pricey. Best prices I've found are on eBay. Only caution is that many interconnects they produce are roughly 2m in length.
