I picked up one of these, thinking it would be better than my older Sony D-565, and looked forward to comparing it to my recently acquired Sony D-25S. Maybe I was just expecting too much. I think the 565's line out sounds a bit better. I had planned on selling my 565...I'm now glad nobody offered anything for it! I haven't compared the D-25S's line out yet, mainly because I use the nice headphone amp on the unit. FYI, I am listening with Grado RS-1's through a RA-1 amp for the line out testing. The 565 just seemed to offer a fuller sound. With all the accolades given to the 570, I'm not saying it's a bad unit. I guess I just don't like the Panasonic sound as much. However, I did do a quick test with a line out of a newer Sony D-621 that I gave my wife, and the Panasonic did sound better. I think the newer Sony's just don't cut it (which is why it ended up in my wife's hands). Just more evidence that older is better when it comes to portables. I was also surprised to find out that the 570's line out is affected by the EQ settings on the player. I'm still keeping the player, as it still sounds decent for a portable. It will probably be put on the shelf for now, though, until either of my Sony players crap out.
