I would trust the IE800 more if it was this chick presenting them ;)

I would love to hear a comparison of IE800 and the Z5.

I'd be very interested in a direct comparison with other hybrids. Especially the K3003.

So I tried the A1 for a good 30mins and ended up buying a pair (which will arrive later this week) even though I'm not really convinced. Below are my first impressions, a short review will follow later on.

Keep in mind that I'm quite new to the audiophile world and that until recently I've been mostly using Klipsch S4 (quite bassy, harsh treble), although I've briefly tried a bunch of other stuff (Momentum, PX100-II, MHA750, Klipsch x7).

On to the A1, my first impression was that they are much less bassy than H1, although sub-bass is comparable. Highs are fine, and mids are pretty good. Soundstage is quite spacious, maybe even too much when coupled with the toned down bass to really enjoy genres like metal and fast rock (something that bothered me was that in songs where the drums were already not very prominent they got even more distant). Overall they are quite balanced (compared to s4 at least).

Build quality is very good, nice strain reliefs, good cable, the mic is light and feels solid. They are also really small (contrary to first impression), and I can manage to insert them quite deep, which I can't do with the A2 and A3.

That's all for now, hope it helps.

This thread was getting real interesting for a while. ;)

Anyway, has anybody managed to compare the Z5 to the A3 in an extended listening session? I'm interested in both, but if the performance gap is too marginal between the 2, I might just get the A3 instead.

That's quite cheap! I got them for 115$ and they're a good 40$ off retail price.

No extended listenings, yet. I think Z5 also requires the Pha-3 and another cable to really shine, so yeah, may as well get A3 if you're gonna move around a lot.

Hey, thanks!

Yeah, how could I forgot about the description of the Z5's bass as coagulated phlegm stuck at the back of your throat. biggrin.gif

Tbh, the A3s sound a lot more appealing, especially since I can get them for about half the price in Japan.
