On the Alien, the deepest drum beats had slightly more impact and rumble to them - about a 5-10% difference

Thanks. Soon will order Alien. Does it support 64gb? since there is no screen I assume no EQ or anything. Does it use same chip as X5?

Pretty sure it does not use the same chip.

It plays, it skips (when you ask it to), and it stops - that's about it. You can use a 64Gb card, but navigating that many files might be a hassle without a screen.

I don't know what chip it uses, but what matters is how it sounds - awesome!

I have a network walkman that I was using and the screen broke but I got used to it. Except it has shuffle option that I enabled before the screen died. Thanks guys I will give alien a try worst case I will use it as my second player. I heard the soundstage of Alien is more wider then C3. So I am sure it is a big upgrade to C3

Ask yourself whether the extra cost for slightly better sound (what he thinks) and a screen as well as a stable UI is worth it.

I don't think he said the DX90 is better. "It (alien) has better detail retrieval and clarity."

can you tell how does Alien compare to C3 in terms of sound quality? if the amp is more powerful then c3?

I believe I did, you may have missed it.

Alien is better than C3, DX50, and I trust Loquah who's selling his X5 keeping the Alien.

I had some time this afternoon to try the Alien as a source to my Bottlehead Mainline which has switchable inputs. On the second input was a Matrix X-Sabre... you know where this is going...

With identical tracks and level matching by ear (the X-Sabre had a slight volume advantage), the Alien and X-Sabre are shockingly close. I say shockingly because if you didn't listen for a difference you could easily mistake them and we're talking about a $250 player compared to a $1300 DAC. Where the X-Sabre pulled ahead was in subtle detail resolution, particularly in the background of the soundstage. This was all using 44.1/16 files and listening via HD800s - pretty impressive for a little sliver of aluminium!

Especially when double amping. How does just the Alien compare to the home kit into your Shures?

any idea if this is coming to EU sometime?

Thanks. I missed it. What you mean out put power? does it mean you need to turn the volume all the way up? on my C3 with B&O H6 I need to turn my volume all the way up.

Output power is basically the amount of driving power a DAP has and will decide what it can and cannot drive efficiently.

It does not mean max volume. :)
