Well us owners might not care but potential buyers might. I mean it's a leap of faith buying a $250 'shuffle' DAP based on opinion of sound quality from other forum users, measurements would be interesting.

Yeha true enough!

I had the luxury of being able to audition one before buying it.  Not everyone has that.

I actually a/b'd mine against my ak100ii at the time.  Was nice.

I have been comparing alien to some daps also to the x5, but the alien seems to be more interesting to listen to..

also i just got the xduoo x2 for 50$ and man its nice, may be its under the other daps but value for money ??!

Its great, same price as clip+ but packs much more power, i have tried it so far with iems only and it seems to do a good job.

can you tell what you think about it ?

I dont know if it is cool to discuss this here as a comparison, but for people on a lower budget i think its very good value for the money and it also has a screen.

the only problem i face with it, is some strange attitude for the buttons as sometimes it doesnt respond, dont know if this was a problem with my device only or not, but it seems a bit cheap on quality given the price.

I just received it today, but for my other daps the alien gets the most listening time then x5 then dx50.

XDuoo X2 is a great little player, It shares a little similarity to Hisound Studio V. That same clean, clear, well separated sound. It's devices like that which are an excellent example what can be Implemented with cheap parts.

If you listen closely though it lacks the levels of layering a player like Alien or DX90 has. Kind of a little two dimensional than three dimensional.

It's still a fine unit for the money. Should have kept it.

Appreciate if anyone who have owned or listen to Alien and Hidizs AP100 both, could give your comments comparing on the sound. Interested if the AP100 would be an upgrade or sidegrade. Thanks.

Both sound very good. Alien is much less hissy, but neither is perfect. The AP100 is a bit warmer than the Alien; if that is your thing, it is perfect. But I can't see why anyone would choose one over the other. They are incompatible unless the only thing important to you is SQ. If that's the case, it's tit for tat. Size, interface, software, hardware capabilities, native storage, and much more separate the two. I'm a screenless guy, and would like to support Alien on that fact alone. As you know, I think its interface was sacrificed for a style guide. The AP100 reads from card in a jiffy. It hisses and is larger. Take your pick.

I've written about the AP100 here.

Thanks Shigzeo.

I had read your review on AP100 (nice review btw).

But your post has made it much easier for me to make the decision.

I will skip AP100 (for now).

Thanks.

I'll be able to compare Shozy Alien to Pono player hopefully in the next few days. I've also got the Hum Pervasion dap with me which puts up a pretty good fight. Definitely more power from the Hum Pervasion than Alien can produce.

Every time I read about the hum I read perversion instead of pervasion....every single time... :-{}

Little like me with the Pono player if you add an 'R' into the word somewhere. Stuff like this sticks with us.

Shape doesn't help that association...

I assume that should come with some DSD files of ... ergh..... ''healthy materials''

Can't really form any words of trickery from Shozy Alien. Well, not with only one letter. You'd need to replace the 'o' and 'z' with 'i' and 't'

Two letters, doesn't count....

I'm enjoying the Pervasion, but the Alien is still the most engaging portable I've ever heard.

Actually Jh16 hasn't been getting enough time lately since i got the SE846, as i have been playing with it for some time now,

but i took the Jh16 to work for the day, and its just awesome man. The bass is very punchy and on some songs it even has a nice rumble to it.

but what makes me reach for the SE846 a bit more, is the forward mids on that thing is just out of this world, it makes the jh16 feel a bit laid back but with bigger sound stage in comparison, but once you spend 20 min with the JH16 everything is back in place.

but i don't feel any hissing, unless the record was really bad.

Thats just my opinion, but since i got the Alien, my x5 has been collecting dust ( well x5 is great and everything and may be the difference is slight but i feel the alien is more musical ) , i only use the x5 when iam in mood for a certain thing where i can quickly explore and listen too.

If you have a more specific question, shoot !
