Thanks Loquah, indeed it looks pretty rare now, there's one on eBay used for almost $1000 AUD.

Yes. Vary rare. In fact, I am contemplating trying to track one down through my old contacts

Is there any reason why so many people use Grado's for mobile use?  I mean, they're open cans, so you'd think that you wouldn't be able to hear your music.

Was using my Sony NWZ-F806 Walkman this afternoon, I had to stop using it switching back the Alien. The F806 simply isn't in the same playing field, especially the separation, it's just so accurate on the Alien the way all samples tick in time, very precise.

I have C3 and was thinking to get DX90 or X5, but after reading this sub I am tempted. Any one has DX90 can compare the sound to this? I am using B & O H6, though C3 drives it I need to use and amp. So I want to make sure it has better amp then C3

The Alien's amp isn't particularly strong ( I can't compare to C3). I find that it starts to run out of puff (i.e. doesn't quite get peak SQ) with DT1350s and Thinksound On1, but it still sounds very good. You'll probably be OK with the H6, but you might still get more with an external amp.

I know C3 well, I've owned one for almost 2 years and recommend it highly to people, but it meets Its match with Alien.

Compared to Alien C3 sounds less refined, weaker in separation, the music sounds loose, smeared, blurry, Alien sounds much 'tighter' from top to bottom, accurate. I still think the C3 is quite detailed but what I've found is I don't need to use as high volume with Alien for the same amount of detail.

Alien specs state 2x55mW @ 16 ohm, (this is quite a bit more than C3), your B&O H6 are 30ohm so in theory you should be ok but it won't have the output power of something like a DX90 or X5 .Plus remember what you're dealing with here, a screenless FLAC/WAV only unit. You're here purely for sound and no other features.

For the right people Its an excellent product but there's a personal check list you must go through yourself first.

I too find that the most simple stuff has the best price/performance ratio. the new D-Zero MK2 is like an upgraded DX50 for $119.

wonder how it compares to the Alien. Maybe I'll get to try it at the next meet or Billy might decide to stock it.
