This would mean that it will work only with a Sony product. I just tried it with the DX90, line out to the input and changed the switches, no sound.

Mine works from the A15 and from the PC usb and optical outputs. Have not checked it from any other devices yet.

Is there some secret to get the balanced out to work? I just looked at the packaging again. The instruction packet has been opened before and there are little signs like bent cardboard that normally isn't bent on the inside unless the package has been opened. It would seem UTM on Amazon is selling returned items

Balance output will only work with digital inputs whether from an optical out, usb, or from the Walkman. It will not work with single-end input because the amp doesn't have the phase inverter built in to convert SE to balance signal.

Great. I returned the first PHA3 because it wouldn't do balanced with single ended in, in. If the seller had responded, which they never have, I would have known and they wouldn't get a return. So how do you get DSD? I have DSD on the ZX2 but only get hi res on the PHA3 as it converts the DSD to hi res and the light for DSD doesn't light. Thanks for the info.

I made an adapter, as I have all my phones terminated with Hirose and balanced, that will allow them to be used with the PHA3. The combination of the ZX2, PHA3 and the Z5 is starting to sound extremely good in balanced.

Stock Walkman app of ZX2 can't even handle DoP to begin with and that's why no love for DSD at all.

Maybe we could try HibyMusic for free since DoP is good to go

Onkyo HF Player would cost $8.5 to unlock and that's also good for DoP

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.onkyo.jp.hfplayer_unlocker

And then we've got UAPP with DoP as well

I agree with this.  The Z5 in singled end is very good but it is quite a bit better in balance.  If you own the Z5, you should really try it balanced out of the PHA3.  The bad part about hte Z5 is that they don't stay seated very well inside my ears.  Otherwise, I'll likely own one.  IMO, the Z5 is competitive with the original JH13pro in balanced mode.

ZX2 is customized audio device, HiBy was not allowed to install, and Japanses already reported unlocked Onkyo HF player cannot output DSD with ZX2. So no luck for you guys if you just wants to use ZX2 as native DSD transport rolleyes.gif

Ouch, that means we'll have to encapsulate DSD files inside FLAC containers then

Windows

OS X and Linux
http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=129912.0

ALAC containers

Alternatively, MinimServer could stream WAV containers on the fly after wrapping DSD files inside them and the built-in DLNA app of ZX2 will recognize them as DoPWAV files instead of DSD

dopwav    WAV stream containing DoP (DSD over PCM) audio data. See this page for details. The stream.converter property isn't required.

I find that the Z5 is noticeably better than the JH13 Pro, in all areas. It has really surprised me. edit: But, if the fit isn't right, then they won't be all that good. Once the fit is there, They are the most open IEM I have every heard.

I would guess that would work. I just kept working with what was sent and found that the smallest with just the flange work fine. But you have to make sure they are seated in your ear. Once they are, they stay in my ears without a problem. The memory wire that some complain about also works well for me.

I have the 13pro FP version and I find it to be a noticeably better than the Z5 in a side by side comparison.  The original 13pro maybe on par if not slightly better than the Z5 IMO.  My fit is good and I really like the Z5 a great great deal.  How do you like the PHA3 so far?  Do you rate it any better than the ZX2?  I think it should.

Sadly can't find an English version of the site. I wonder if there is anybody closer to North America doing similar cables? Looks like a smart design.

I do not speak Chinese either. I used intermediaries who bought it for me and forward to my address.

It is just starting to open up. The bass yesterday wasn't so great and the sound a little ragged. Today (I leave it with something playing on repeat) is has vastly improved. Excellent bass definition and spacial cues. It is better than just the ZX2. I am using the QLS QA360 with optical feeding it right now and listening to some Mickey Hart.

I guess there are variables. The Z5 "for me" is quite a bit better than the JH13 Pro. I guess I should get them upgraded to the latest version. I have had them for a few years and have sent them back a couple of times for check-ups and once a couple of high freq. drivers were dead.
