Gaming, music and movie set up with Philips Fidelio X1.

Hey guys,

I'm a total rookie to this subject so I'd appreciate some input.

My goal is to essentially upgrade my Astro A40s for gaming but also have something nice for music and movies.
Now my research has lead me to believe that the X1's are a good place to start here and in combination with my 2011 mixamp, a mic and a few extra cables should provide everything I need from a gaming perspective.

My question is more about movies and music and how to get the best experience with these headphones, I'm assuming as these aren't the greatest headphones known to man I don't need to go crazy but I'd like to take advantage especially when it comes to music.
Convenience is probably going to be a huge factor here, I don't want to be swapping cables around if possible, with the exception of the headphones into the appropriate amp.

Music:
I generally have most music on my phone or tablet via google play, I like the convenience of it as I tend to be listening to something new each week however I'm not sure how this would best suit high end headphones as I'm guessing just plugging them into the 3.5mm jack would provide sub-optimal results.

Movies:
I currently have a Yamaha YSP-1400 soundbar (just in case its relevant) and play blu-rays from a PS4/3 (depending on which I can be bothered to take the disc out of) but when the missus isn't around or I want to watch something immersive I would hope that these headphones would provide better audio that my current soundbar (correct?).  If so what sort of hardware would you recommend?

So the big question is do I need to get an amp and if so would I be able to use it easily for music and movies without swapping cables around?  Music would probably be the priority here but if I could have the amp plugged in to the TV so I could watch movies or play games on a better amp than the mixamp whilst still easily playing music through an amp as well that would be win-win.  If there are any recommendations or advise I'm all ears, and thanks in advance!

As you using a gaming console and already have an Astro mix-amp.

Just plug the Astro into the gaming console and the X1 into the Astro.

And make sure DDL (Dolby Digital Live) is enabled on the gaming console, for headphone surround sound with the Astro

I'm assuming your PS3 & PS4 in the audio setting just refer to DDL simply as "Dolby", or something close to that.

You might find an external DAC/Amp (with optical input) that works with the gaming console and provides better audio quality then the Astro,

but chances are it will not provide headphone surround sound, just really good sounding basic stereo audio.
