The 1001th thread about an amplifier for the HD600s

Dear Head-fi community,

Half a year ago I came into the audiophile world by buying the HD555s, I have never been so impressed by music/gaming in my life.

I wasn't planning an upgrade, but recently I found the HD600s for 90 euros shipped.
Obviously I had to buy them and they are currently being shipped.

Now I only have 1 problem.. I don't have an any amplifiers.. I have absolutely zero experience in amplifiers, so I need some help.
My budget is only around 100 euros and I need a strong headphone amp with a build-in DAC, which is moderately portable.

I live in the Netherlands and all I found on the web is:
Shange SG200 for €100
Audioquest dragonfly 1 for €100
Fiio E10K for €76 (from Amazon)

I haven't really digged Amazon yet, but my question is if any of these are decent enough for the HD600s or that I have to sniffle around some more.

Many thanks,
Koekjesdeeg.

Hi. For the HD600 everything from Meier Audio will sound great. So whatever amplifier of his you choose for your budget I know from experience (with the HD650) that it has been the best amplifiers for the money. So have a look at the PCStep if your budget can be stretched. :-)

Thank you! I will look around for one of them.
Maybe I can find one in the Netherlands. :D

In the meantime I'm looking at the Bravo Audio v2,
it looks very interesting for such a small thing..

*Edit* Amps from Meier Audio are about 2x to 3x times my budget,
I have no idea where I could get THAT from, any other suggestion?

Isn't the Dragonfly a DAC only?

Regardless, I suggest that you visit some of the sub-sections of the Equipment Forums here.  I am sure that there are threads on the HD 600 that discuss what amps work well with it.  Likewise the subsections that deal with portable and full sized amps may also be instructive.  You can certainly join those discussions.

A Schiit Magni/Modi used on ebay should hit your target. I thought they did a good job with HD650. $150 plus shipping.

If you need something battery powered that can be used on the go, I would wait until you can afford something a bit more expensive and just use the HD600s right out of your DAP.  They don't sound too bad with out a dedicated amp - probably better than anything you've heard before.

If you don't need something battery powered, most suggested cheap amp/dac combos are the schiit magni/modi, O2/ODAC or fiio e9k and e17 if you want something a bit cheaper.

I am currently sitting here switching between my Fiio E7 and my Headamp Pico driving my HD-580's, and the Fiio gives the Pico a pretty good run for its money for about about 1/10 the cost. I'd have no hesitations buying an E7 or more likely its replacement the E07k to drive these.

Thank you for all the suggestions!

I would love to buy the Schitt Modi/Magni combo, but sadly it costs $200 with shipping included and I only get €25 a month (pocket money), so I would have to wait 2 more months then. :o
But I'll keep all those combos in mind for my next upgrade, they all look very sexy :D

So that means I would have to go with the Shange SG-200, I searched into it and found it's pretty well known in the headphone community under the name 'Tiny Tube Amp (and v2)'  from
Über Muzik and that there is also another version called the 'SG-300' from the brand Racoon. A lot of people have reviewed it with their HD600/650s, with a lot of good news:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/605840/the-uber-muzik-ttd-v2-comparisons-with-the-audinst-hud-mx1-anedio-d1-and-adl-cruise

If anyone has had experience with these shiny tube amps, I would love to hear your opinions about it. :D
