Need advice for the best USB DAC/Headphone amp for my laptop

I own the Dell Precision M6500. And it's sound quality is absolutely abysmal. Just terrible.

Can anyone recommend me the best USB DAC or an Amp combo that will work great with this laptop?

I only listen using my headphone and earbuds.

It depends on your budget, but the Schiit Magni/Modi or O2+ODAC would be a great start.  There are cheaper options.  Give the folks at Headphone.com a ring sometime and they will give you some recommendations based on budget and your needs.

My budget is $200 and under. I appreciate the feedbacks. I prefer a bright colorful sound. I'm not a fan of the warmth variety.

Any more suggestions? The more options for me to look at, the better.

Thanks, and keep it coming.

What earbuds and headphones do you use?

Schiit Magni/Modi seems like your best bet then.

my buds are Philips SHE3580

my phones are beyerdynamic dt 770

I'm planning on getting a Sennheiser and a Grado in the near future. I'm looking through the models and reviews.

What's the difference between Dragonfly v1.0 and v1.2?

I also read that overall it has a warmth sound quality, which isn't really my thing. But I can't ignore the overwhelming good reviews about. So I might consider it.

Is there a brighter sound version DAC within the price range of the Dragonfly?

Can't compare the sound signature of the DF, but I am told by a reputable source that the v1.2 sounds more open than the v1.0. Haven't received mine yet.

After doing some thorough research using Head fi's search function, I've decided on getting the Centrance Dacport LX. It's well within the $200 range.

I want to ask you all, just to make sure before I buy, is this a good choice for my sound quality preferences?

How no one asked what ohms the 770's is beyond me. 32, 250 or 600 ?

And what is your ideal headphone?

Bass heavy, neutral, somewhere in between?

velour, pleather, other material on earpads?

Closed or open headphones?

Does the weight of the headphone matter ?

What type of music do you like listening too ?
