What amp was being used to drive the LCD-4's?

they demo the LCDs with a burson conductor.   And when switching from LCD-4 to LCD-X without touching the volume knob, the music volumes raised very much, showing that the LCD-4 is much less efficient than the LCD-X  (and I got the same when testing with my HUGO)

What were your impressions of the sound of them?

I am sorry, but it was way too noisy around (show conditions ) to evaluate properly the SQ of an open headphone like the LCDs.

So I can only tell about volume level and confort issue  (the Dharma was in a much quiter part of the trade show).

No more news about the NAGRA ?

I would have loved to hear how the NAGRA's headphone-out works with headphone like the HD800, LCD-4 and EnigmaAcoustics Dharma....

Is this thread dead ;-(

I think you already did answer your question regarding LCD-4 yourself ;-) - if HD DAC has same headphonestage like PL-P and CD-C it won't drive HD800 and probably Dharma at it's full potential...

no, I tested the LCD-4 on a Burton Conductor Amp.

Sorry bmichels - then I misunderstood. But as said, when Nagra is using same headphoneamp as CD-C and PL-P it won't drive the headphones at it's full potential. I'll wait with patience (together with you ;-)) for further comments...

Hi, I have HD DAC ( now with MPS power ) and listen alternately to its HA output thru Senn HD800 via Moon Audio Silver Dragon v3 cable, and same cable thru the Luxman p700u balanced HA ( balanced cable ) into HD800 : there ARE differences of individual character and density, richness via Nagra HD DAC, vs. more detail, air & ethereal music from the Luxman. These are Slight nuances, both very musical and pleasurable to hear from either.

Would love to hear Dharma phones in my system for comparison.... . . Any experiences??

Cheers M2m

If HD DAC can drive HD800 that good, headphoneamp must have different layout as in PL-P and CD-C. Thanks for info...

I confirm: HD DAC headphones amp is a total new design from Nagra.

It seems OK for dynamic headphones, but it reach it's limits with orthos like the HE1000 (according to Isquirrel).  That is a pitty, Even the TT's headphone output is more powerful :-(

Anyone interested in a virtually new Nagra HD with MPS/battery upgrade for a very good price, I know of one that will be going on sale by a reputable head-fier.  Feel free to PM me.

So I had the chance to listen to the new MSB Select DAC and did a write up on my findings. Thought it might be appreciated here, with all the high end DAC's being discussed, so here's the link. http://www.head-fi.org/t/613387/msb-analog-dac-review-p3/450#post_12158199

Also for those who are after a TOTL DAC that's a little more financially viable than the Select here's a shameless plug for the DaVinci Dual DAC I've got up for sale. http://www.head-fi.org/t/789345/fs-light-harmonic-davinci-dual-dac-in-black
